Overview

The MXR EVH Phase 90 Shifter is a limited-edition version of the legendary MXR Phase 90. The Phase 90 was instrumental in creating the guitar tones on the early Van Halen records; the swirling, spacey sound on such songs as "Eruption," "Atomic Punk," and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love." The EVH 90 captures the warm, hypnotic tone of the vintage "script logo" Phase 90, and with the flip of a switch also delivers an intense, edgier phase tone. It features rock-solid internal construction and an indestructible enclosure to ensure years of flawless performance. Add to this the Van Halen-approved striped graphics from the guitar that changed the world and you have a truly unique piece of rock history.

First off this thing is phenominal. If you are a fan of the David Lee Roth era van halen guitar tone you need this pedal to capture the tone. People say that this is not a very good phase shifter, however they really do not know what a phase 90 does. The pahse 90 adds a trebele boost that makes solo's cut through the mix. Those words were spoken by EVH himself so believe me this pedal is essential. The EVH phase 90 is one of the esiest pedals to use. I mean how hard is it, it has a on/off switch, a speed knob, and a Script switch. The great think about this script switch is it allows you to have the older "script" sound which EVH used, rather then the more modern sounding "block" phasing. If you are a fan of early VH, get this pedal, because if you dont your tone will just always lack that extra "uummmffff" that this pedal will give it.That being said it will not make you sound like ed or capture the brown sound, but it 'll get you one step closer.

This pedal didn't sound too bad at first besides the fact that it is very limited in its capabilities due to the singular knob. While the tone is one of the better I have heard, the script button serves little purpose and turning the knob changes the phase speed but very it is very subtle. Overall I do not recommend this, it was a waste of money, especially for the price. It is extremely over-priced for such low capability and it is because it has Eddie's name on it. That is it. There are better phase pedals out there and this one just decided to break randomly about 2 weeks after purchase and 20 hours of play. Do not buy, for the sake of your wallet.

Wow!! Very Impressed!!

Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:

You want an MXR Phase 90?? Check. You want a more subtle sounding, classic, "script" MXR Phase 90? Check. You really are buying two pedals in one with the EVH version of the Phase 90. It's not just a gimmick, it DELIVERS. The block logo lettered Phase 90 is much more present and the effect is much more out front. The script logo Phase 90 was warmer, and more subtle. With this pedal, you get both, and can apply both applications with the touch of a button. For that flexibility alone, this pedal is well worth it!! I love it and it's become a major part of what I use.

It's a keeper

Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:

Just pick this up from G.C. a few days back. I have been thinking about for a long while though,I'm not a fx type of person - mostly just Wah and O.D.. Got say that I like it alot, just place your favorite O.D. in front of it with a splash of reverb (plate is best) and you've got E.V.H.. With the script button pushed in, it's a little warmer but it's a subtle difference between the two. Only petty complaint I have is, I wish the script button had it's own light, but that would drive price up even more.

All-around great phaser!

By

from NC

Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:

I've owned this pedal for a few years now and I use it consistently in live situations. In my experience, it does exactly what it advertises; it provides a simple, classic phaser tone with a little added versatility. I've heard many reviewers complain that the Script switch has no effect on the tone, but it truly does allow you to alternate between a more intense, modern sound and the subtle effect that vintage Phase 90s had. This option has proven to be very useful, both in cases where I needed a more subtle effect as well as times when I wanted the phaser to boldly cut through the mix. Seeing as this pedal is not true-bypass, there is a minimal amount of tone loss but it's nothing a good buffer can't fix. Whether you're chasing that classic Van Halen tone or simply looking for a quality phaser, this pedal will satisfy your needs!

Must Have

By

from winston-salem, NC

Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:

this thing is a must have for anyone who has a pedal board especially because it has a beautiful warm sound, it looks amazing, you can create your own sound, recreate eddies, and itۡs basically buying two in one. You get the standard phase 90 block version and the script version at the push of a button. I have had this pedal for a while now and I can honestly say I will never remove it, if it breaks ill get a new one. All Iۡm saying is, you buy this, you'll agree with my reasons to get it, and make your own to keep it.

Simply Eddie

By

from N/A

Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:

If you have ever heard the Eruption solo and liked it, it's in part to the MXR Phase 90 script. when combined with EVH he turns another pedal into the pedal guitarists wish they had. as a guitarist,i have listened to Van Halen and seen them in concert in Chicago, where there was quite a performance like always. so when i used the pedal for the first time i was stunned at the distortion it put out. i have a Ibanez Superstrat with 2 alnico IV pickups and a single coil. i turned on the pedal and started playing part of eruption, what i know, and when combine with the tremolo, the pedal is top notch. Five Stars man.

Why would you want more?

By

from Hollysprings, GA

Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:

Sure it has Eddie's name on it but I'm not even a EVH fan. I bought this pedal because it's just better. It has more clarity, less to none of the distortion of the original and it has more of a crispness to the phase effect. Alot of people complain about how the "script" switch doesn't do anything but they just aren't listening. When the switch is pressed in it has a more subtle effect like the M-101. When the switch is out it just makes the effect a smidge brighter. Almost sharper. Listen through headphones to really hear it. If you're a fan of the Phase 90 M-101 and want a replacement or just want a new one... then get this pedal. It's definitely worth it.
