When Dimebag Darrell of Pantera first exploded on the scene, he ushered in a new era of tone and attitude. When it comes to guitar, Dime doesn't need a "warm" or "pretty" sound. He can't be bothered with "vintage" this or "boutique" that. He wants a heavy, aggressive, razor-sharp tone that can slice through a loud band and a louder crowd. It's a tone that rages with distortion but remains tight and focused enough to keep up with lightening-fast rhythm lines and face-melting solos.
Finally there's a pedal that can deliver all that: the The Dime Distortion from MXR. Crank the gain, boost the lows and highs, and hit the Scoop switch for a rhythm tone that will annihilate. Dial the mids back in and mow down the competition with a lead sound that can penetrate steel. If it still hasn't gotten heavy enough for you, stick the Dime in front of a distorted amp and experience sustain and sonic mayhem that's so over the top it should come with a warning label.

I bought one of these used, and it included the Jim Dunlop brand 18volt power supply. I had high hopes for this based on others great reviews and how satisified I am with another MXR distortion unit, the Fullbore Metal pedal. I spent a good hour tweaking the EQ knobs, gain and output knobs in various combinations, but it just sounded synthetic and grainy. The Treble knob seemed to be limited to a narrow high frequency band that was hissy, and the Mids knob's frequency band seemed similarly centered on a narrow and undesirable band of the Mids frequency band. My set-up is a quality tube amp as others have recommended in their reviews. Very disappointed in this one, planning to return it soon.
I bought this pedal and didn't like it at first. But I messed with the eq on the pedal and messed with the eq on my amp(original 5150) I love it! This is my second mxr pedal and I gotta say they are bolth built like tanks and the tone is great. You get nice pinch harmonics with it although I turned the gain up a little on my amp to get it where I want it. I wasn't to crazy about the way the mid scoop button makes it sound. But what I love about this and the wylde overdrive is the tone they bolth sound great.so get this pedal mess with it and get it dialed in you'll love it!
this pedal rocks!!!! awsome for the price....i was looking for a pedal that sounds like the cemetery gates song.....and i just find what i was looking for ...recommended for heavy metal!!
When i bought this pedal a few months back, i was under the impression it was only to be used for metal (which in my mind it exceeds any expectations). However the mid-sweep feature allows you to get a nice crunch out of it as well which is rare in a distortion pedal. This is now the only distortion pedal i use now making the digitech gnx-2 obsolete. For the price this is the best distortion pedal available in the world.
GREAT DISTORTION! If you want to hear what this actualy sounds like, buy "Damage Plan"s CD (not Pantera, that was a different pedal set-up). Works GREAT when matched with a MXR Wylde Over-Drive (either model). I recemend this to be used primarily in front of a TUBE driven amp with your master gain at around 5 or 6 for that "in your face" sound while still having total control. You want to get "on top" of the mountain, not "OVER" it. It's also built like a tank, like most MXR pedals! VERY good investment. NOT recemended for Black Metal.
Get that great Pantera sound with this hot rod pedal! Mean Crunch, Paint-Peeling Squeals, and everything in between is available at the turn of a dial. The coolest feature about this little baby is the mid-range sweep button. It has a killer mid-range presence that wil warm your blood. A must have for any hard rock or metal guitarist.
If you are looking for a "bassy-crunchy" distortion, look no further. This pedal will give a great tone with any amp. Not only that, but also has great clarity in the sound. There are many options possible with this pedal, especially having an "A/B" type button.
