The MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal performs like Zakk. Whether on his groundbreaking work with Ozzy Osbourne or with his own Black Label Society, Zakk Wylde's guitar playing is loud, tough, and relentless. Zakk's take-no-prisoners attitude extends to his quest for tone, too. His signature ZW-44 overdrive pedal will turn your clean amp into a heavy, chunky, crunch machine. Or, use it like Zakk does and kick it in front of a dirty amp for a screaming, sustaining lead tone. 3 simple controls—output, tone, and drive—make getting up and running easy, so you can concentrate on your chops.

First off all, I would like to say im not sugar coating this review, this is no one trick pony, it can be used to drive a warm clean channel into a crisp, soulful blusey drive that breaks up very nicely with humbuckers or single coils for a tasty boutique tone. glorious ! The ZW-44 can also be used to tighten up the bottom end and add some sizzle for leaping harmonics of a crunch channel or another distortion pedal(thats how i use it with a boss Metal Zone and its amazing) its a hotter pedal than a more mellow ts9 and its mildly more scooped sounding, sounds great with both actives and passives ,i love both. All in all great pedal, bulit like a tank. Matt Tuck and dime used it that i know of. Highly recomended 5 stars. Happy Playing

Brewtal Pedal - A cheap way to hotrod your tube amp!
This pedal does a couple of things really well, and is a great pedal to hotrod clean sounding tube amps at moderate or high volumes. A great pedal for your gig bag if you ever get stuck using a backup tube amp, and need to get good gain and tone in an instant.
Most fender and marshall tube amps with high gain channels offer one style of gain and tone which may or may not be your cup of tea. Use this pedal in your clean channel (which usually has the fullest tone) and it will give you a well rounded saturated gain unlike the typical fuzz/distortion box. It felt like a just got my amp modified by a boutique builder.
Second, It also works really well as a volume boost pedal to give your leads more gain and power.
It can also be used as a boost on high gain channels but you will probably need to turn the gain control way down to avoid squealing or other noise etc.
It is not your typical bedroom practice volume fuzz. This is a players pedal for band practice / gig volumes.
I have tried many overdrive pedals recommended by friends and professionals, but I never get what I want out of them. After picking out this pedal on my own, this is definitely my favorite overdrive pedal. When you set the Gain to maximum and using a clean channel you can get a solid crunch out of it which is good for that classic rock sound. This pedal, however, is at its best when it is used as a boost. The transition from a metal rhythm tone to metal lead tone is smooth without the loss of note clarity, you will get feedback after you stop playing, but its not as harsh and as earsplitting as some overdrive pedals. The metal casing on it is also extremely durable, I accidentally dropped it on hard tile and it still works perfectly. Overall this is truly a fantastic pedal; it sounds great, looks great, its durability is great and its simple to dial in your own settings. What more could you want?
