  • Gets the job done

As reviewed by Justin on 5/3/2011

This pedal added all the distortion I was looking for without sacrificing the low end. The flexibility allows a wide range of use across many genres of music. The Deep button adds a boost of low end to fill out your sound. I've found this to be more advantageous when in a lower tuning. I used it to get the extra push when in D standard tuning. The Volume pot is straight forward. This allows the pedal to be used like a lead channel if desired. Turn it up to give you the extra volume to put the bass out front. It also makes it really easy to balance your output when the pedal is bypassed or in use. The Tone pot acts as a crossover for where you want to hear the distortion. This is a very useful feature. It's allowed me to keep the band having a full sound when both guitarists are playing lead. It can be used to keep the high end sounding a bit cleaner if you just want to the lows to break apart. The Fuzz pot lets you dial in the amount of fuzz you want. When dialed back you can just start to notice the signal breaking apart. You can also go in the opposite extreme and crank it up leaving little for clarity. The higher you go with this the more likely you are you take off with a feedback loop. The only downside to this pedal is feedback. I've used the El Grande Bass Fuzz with both active and passive basses. I found out that the feedback is far worse when using active pickups. With passive pickups the chances of a feedback loop taking off are reduced. The construction of the pedal lives up to the quality I expect from MXR. It's also very lightweight but still very sturdy. The lines on the potentiometers are painted with glow in the dark ink which is perfect in low lighting stage settings. I've been using this pedal for about 2 months now and it's been very reliable without and issues. I've never used a 9 Volt battery in it because I have a power supply for it with the rest of my bass rig.

  • Holy Fuzz!!!!!

As reviewed by Mike Campbell on 6/18/2008

This pedal is so amazing! It is tiny, powerful, and loud. It isn't like most distortion/fuzz pedals where there is either too much distortion or fuzz or not enough. I can get any sound that I want with the simple turn of a knob. The deep switch is so powerful. It adds so much to your mix. It is light weight, and is very durable. It can handle anything that you can dish out. Another awesome product from the guys at Jim Dunlop! If you are in the market for a distortion/fuzz, or just to Expand your current rig check this guy out. You won't be disapointed.

  • NOISE NOISE NOISE

As reviewed by MIKE on 9/18/2009

If you like adding a noise supressor to your pedal board because this pedal is nothing but loud static and earing piercing screaches then go for it. I bought it and hated it so I returned it and bought a KEELEY Fuzzhead, what a difference! A few more dollars but sounds fantastic.
