Product Information

This unassuming little box shovels out enough low frequencies to scare a blue whale.

The MXR Blue Box takes your guitar signal, fuzzes it up, then duplicates it two octaves down. You control the output and the mix between the dry signal and the effect. Using it 100% wet is quite an experience, but more recognizable sounds appear as you dial in more dry signal. The Blue Box is known for having a chaotic personality that can make each session a totally unique experience!

Here are just some of the people who are using this box: John 5 - Rob Zombie, Mick Thompson - Slipknot, Munky - Korn, Jimmy Page, Tim Skold - Marilyn Manson, Jay Baumgardner - Producer Zakk Wylde, Geordie White - A Perfect Circle

With our Guaranteed Lowest Price, you can be assured of complete satisfaction and the lowest available price, or your money back!

MXR M-103 Blue Box Features:

  • Power: Single 9 volt battery or Dunlop ECB-002 AC adapter
  • Controls: Footswitch toggles effect on/bypass (red LED indicates on)
  • Output knob sets total output gain
  • Blend knob adjusts ratio of dry (clean) with wet (effects) signal

Crazy-Cool Effects Pedal!

The MXR M-103 Blue Box is a combination octaver/distortion pedal, with a bit of pitch modulation thrown in for extra insanity. When played without other effects, it sounds like an Atari 2600 on a rampage! Combined with a slow and deep chorus and a bit more rock distortion, you can get cool sounds similar to '70s rock or even a bit like '60s psychedelic. This is not a polyphonic pedal, so chording with this box doesn't work too well. Use single notes for best results; and use chorus, delay, or harmonizer pedals later in the effects chain to flesh out your sound. I've also tried MXR and DigiTech phasers with the Blue Box, with fun and interesting results! Keep the Blend knob around the 10 or 11 o'clock position for less randomness and a bit more control over your sound. The Blue Box is built tough, and is a lot of fun to use! This pedal is a great value; and provides unique sounds for rock, metal, industrial, punk, alternative, and experimental music!

Fuzz + Octave = MXR Bluebox!!

This fiesty little fella has been wisely re-issued to save us all from collectors prices and all those empty handed pawnshop outings. It?s here and it?s just as mean as ever. The Blue Box is a vicious fuzz combined with an octave tone two notes below your original note. The tracking on this unit is very random so don?t ever plan on predictable results. Expecting sheer madness when stomping on this is a whole lot of fun and the experience is refreshing compared to the safe sonic trips we all end up taking with most of our effects. The Blue Box will twist and pulverize your riffs and notes into something very sick and, at times, very synthy . Need a little sanity? Try backing off the blend knob and things get a little more manageable. Everyone needs a secret weapon in their rig and this one is the perfect candidate.

More Versatile Than You Think

The ?who using? list of artists on this pedal may be deceiving. I actually play a lot of reggae stuff and for lead tones it can actually be pretty versatile. However when the MXR snipet says it has a ?chaotic personality? that?s probably referring to the bad tracking. Sometimes I feel as if its losing the note I was originally playing or can't keep track of everything i'm playing. However it does make for unique sounds every time you play. It?s sometimes hard to recreate the same sound twice. It?s still a unique and fun pedal and constructed very well with simple knobs. Overall a pedal I don?t use too often but when it fits in a certain song it fits perfectly.

MXR M103 BLUE BOX

Well made unit simple. I would only recomend this pedal to those who want a little something extra to throw in the mix once in a while . It is probably not the most used effect on my board but it has a place .

Unique Classic

The second i got this pedal i was floored by the strange beautiful tone it produced. i was able to not only duplicate the fool in the rain solo, but i was able to create some really cool rush-inspired licks with it too. not for the everyday, but a must have for players with a creative itch.
