  • Crunchy Goodness

As reviewed by The Chaz on 12/31/2008

I use the KFK for my rhythm when I am playing and it does it all. It tightens up my sound, gives a little boost in gain if I set it right, and gets rid of the muddiness. The first time I used it I was schocked. It's also built like a tank. I don't think that it will ever die.

  • Awsome EQ

As reviewed by Eric on 7/8/2008

I bought one of these to help clear up my clean tone, and a little bite to my distortion. Not only did it do that, it beefed it up a bit. Im still toying with it too!!! I use it mainly with my Jackson( with Duncan Sh-6's and a JB Jr.) and PRS (Allender stock) I actually had to turn the bass on my amp almost all the way down. It took care of my muddy stock sound. This is a sweet EQ. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to take a little more control of your tone. Next to my NS-2, this is probably the best investment I've made for my tone.

  • A Good EQ Pedal

As reviewed by Jimmy Polston on 3/5/2011

Short take: a Good pedalboard EQ. Forget the second amp output. This box has been in and out of my gigging pedalboard for the past 5 years. I got it to fine-tune my rig to the room. I play rock. Its tough metal case has a respectable heft, and the black wrinkle finish looks good (I could have done without the "tribal" graphics; some may go for that sort of thing so each to his/her own.) The red lights on its ten EQ sliders add a great visual touch to a pedalboard. When the stage lights are low, it looks killer! It's front-mounted jacks are welcome in a stuffed board; they are well-made. The slide controls feel good; not cheap. The Input/Output Gain and EQ sliders are rather exposed, so I wouldn't carry it loose in a gig bag for fear of crushing a slide potentiometer. Mount it solidly in a covered hard pedalboard or other protected case. The sound? 18 Volts, so it has a lot of headroom. Great for shaping clean sounds. Too noisy for shaping distorted tones due to excessive hiss. (Any diehard Kerry King fan is gonna be using mega distortion, so why this cost-cut in parts beats me.) This hiss is more pronounced if it's being used to boost instead of cut. The second amp output? Useless due to ground loop hum. This unit does NOT have transformer-isolated outputs! And there is no getting around that requirement if you're gonna "punish two amps at once" without ground-loop hum. If they ditched the useless second amp output for a better signal/noise ratio, I would easily give it 5 stars. But still, it shapes tone well, is sturdy, and has bling. It may be hard to find a better eq that fits in a pedalboard unless you go the boutique route.
