This mic was a pleasant surprise. I originally expected this mic to be a extra mic in my studio in case I needed something different or something happened to one of my usual mics. After testing the mic I found that it is great for vocal work. Now I have 3 of these mics and I use it for recording vocals 95% of the time. This mic has a very clear and defined sound to it which is exactly what I like. I also love using this mic on acoustic guitars. I find that this mic is the most used mic in my project studio, I assure you that you can not go wrong by having one in your studio (which is why I have 3).

The mic is very bright, kind of harsh on certain type of vocals. On very soft tones it works fine, but if there's a heavier voice, it gets rougher. Compared it with other 300-600 dollar mics in my studio - good extra overhead etc mic for 100 bucks, but definitely sticking to my old mics for lead vocals.

Good Value for a Mic!

By Dulcimerist

from Billings, MT

Comments about MXL V63M Condenser Studio Microphone with Shockmount:

The MXL V63M is the first mic I ever purchased, as my budget wouldn?t allow for anything fancier. This product is built sturdy, and sounds pretty good. The addition of the shockmount in this package is very nice, as you really need one whenever you use a condenser mic. I run this through an ART tube preamp, which gives the MXL V63M a nicer tone. For better clarity and crispness on vocals, I did later purchase an MXL 2003, which sounds amazingly better than the MXL V63M. In comparison, the V63M sounded as if it had a blanket put over it. In hindsight, I should?ve invested a bit extra for the MXL 2003 to begin with, and I would highly recommend that route to others as well.

This thing sounds awesome for a mic at this price. It is REALLY sensitive and picks up everything. I use it for vocals and recording acoustic guitar and bass live. Couldn't be happier.

cost effective

By Michael Frann

from Baltimore, Maryland

Comments about MXL V63M Condenser Studio Microphone with Shockmount:

I am very much satisfied with the MXL V63M microphones. I had been interested in MXL 2003 although while searching the internet I read that the V63M was designed in close association with the 2003. The stereo field is much more saturated than with Shure BG 4.1 that I had been using etc. There is more resolution on high frequencies. Much of the progress I have made in the past has been parametric with upgrades in recording components. The V63M is a cost effective solution for acoustic guitar.

Great for the price

By Heron Johnson

from Arlington, Tx

Comments about MXL V63M Condenser Studio Microphone with Shockmount:

I've been using this mic for about a month now and it's been used to record acoustic and electric guitar and bass, male and female vocals, drums, and cello. So far it has been very accurate in picking up what I need it to. My only complaint is with the shockmount, it isn't as loose as it needs to be to do its job. Aside from that I would very much recomend buying this mic if your budget doesn't allow for anything more expensive or if you are just trying to record a good quality demo.

Affordable price, delivers.

By mike

Comments about MXL V63M Condenser Studio Microphone with Shockmount:

I'm surprised this is $100 now, when I bought it the going rate was about $70 new! It's still worth the money. I do enjoy this microphone. I have a Shure Sm7b and since I don't have a decent high gain preamp for it yet, I'm still using this mic for vocals. I never write reviews on products, but I just thought about it today and decided to do it. This mic is really perfect for a home studio enthusiast. Hip hop, rnb, soul, blues, funk. that's the kinda stuff i put through this mic and i have no complaints.
