Nice balance tone

This microphone was a surprise. I have many MXL mics, all of them good, but this one had such a full rich low end and crisp but natural highs. It reminds me of the old ribbon mics. The design of the case allows you to speak or sing close without a wind screen, and the look of the mic is stunning with a lot of old style appeal. The built quality seems good but the sound is stellar.

Surprising!

OK, I can't afford a RCA 44 but do own several ribbon microphones. This one was bought as a photo prop for a singer I record. BTW, there was a place for a cable in the case but was missing! After the disappointment with the MXL 990s noise floor, I noted this one was 6 db lower and you can sure tell! Just a couple of db higher than my AT3035 and same as a Shure KSM27. Thus I find it very usable as well as having that vintage look. A right angle XLR cable would be nice to have. Note that I record a lot of quiet dialog and sound effects thus the noise floor of my equipment is important.
