  • Great Sound For the $

As reviewed by Jake on 12/19/2007

Well, I have been using this mic for about a year now. I haven't had a single problem with it. It's not the best tube condenser I've heard but for the price it is the best in it's range. I do wish that MXL offered a better shock mount(it's pretty much crap...you have to tighten the mounting screws before every time you use it). The mic itself is made well enough and the sound is nice a full...it's a good idea to let the tube warm up for about 15 minutes before using it. You will get the best sound that way. The sound of this mic is good on pretty much all vocal types including female vocals. It is relatively flat sounding...almost like a ribbon mic...which is nice especially if you like to buss your vocals all to one group with EQ on them. I also prefer it over more expensive mics for acoustic guitars in and XY pattern with a solid state class A or transformer less mice. It just has that thing. I prefer to push it through a Chameleon Labs 7206 or a Great River MP1-NV. Basically if you are going to buy MXL this is the one to buy.

  • this mic sucks.

As reviewed by Anonymous on 12/21/2010

Well i bought this from guitar center, after the manager told me this is probably the best mic for me to start off with. well, i've been recording for the past couple of month working on my album and one thing i have noticed alot is that this mic statics up ALOT which is really annoying, and i looked online and alot of reviews online (not on here) say the same thing, everyone or mostly everyone who has this mic has a static issue, i would not recommend this mic to anyone.

  • Excellent Mic

As reviewed by Randy Stanton on 2/26/2010

I have been using this mic as my "go to" studio mic for about 2 years. I have a mid-range male vocal that is a little scratchy and this was the first mic I have owned that captures my sound and translates it in a rock mix. I use it with a Studio Projects VTB-1. I did have to replace the Shock Mount as it broke when I over tightened it. If it broke I would replace it or try the MXL Genesis if I had a few extra upgrade $$$. Very pleased.
