Excellent vocal and acoustic mic!

This mic was a pleasant surprise. I originally expected this mic to be a extra mic in my studio in case I needed something different or something happened to one of my usual mics. After testing the mic I found that it is great for vocal work. Now I have 3 of these mics and I use it for recording vocals 95% of the time. This mic has a very clear and defined sound to it which is exactly what I like. I also love using this mic on acoustic guitars. I find that this mic is the most used mic in my project studio, I assure you that you can not go wrong by having one in your studio (which is why I have 3).

Good Value for a Mic!

The MXL V63M is the first mic I ever purchased, as my budget wouldn?t allow for anything fancier. This product is built sturdy, and sounds pretty good. The addition of the shockmount in this package is very nice, as you really need one whenever you use a condenser mic. I run this through an ART tube preamp, which gives the MXL V63M a nicer tone. For better clarity and crispness on vocals, I did later purchase an MXL 2003, which sounds amazingly better than the MXL V63M. In comparison, the V63M sounded as if it had a blanket put over it. In hindsight, I should?ve invested a bit extra for the MXL 2003 to begin with, and I would highly recommend that route to others as well.

Decent mic but....

I found this mic sounds alright on vocals and acoustic guitar, but the quality didn't impress me. After several months, the center part of the mic starting becoming loose and now it has this awful hum about 1/2 the time. However, the shockmount is nice to have and I'm sure if it didn't break it would be ok to use for some low quality demos. I wouldn't recommend this mic for use in a professional studio.
