High accuracy with vocal-flattering warmth!

The MXL 3000 has a large gold-sputtered diaphragm and an FET preamplifier with premium components within the signal path. Its transformer-coupled output is very reminiscent of the circuit designs found in early British recording consoles. When used for recording vocals the microphone has amazing clarity and warmth. It is a stunningly detailed microphone that is also appropriate for instrument miking, especially of string and wind instruments. It comes in a rugged aluminum flight case and includes microphone mount.Requires phantom power.

  • Good but a bit expensive

As reviewed by Fuzzball on 9/29/2006

I have a MXL 3000 mic and it is absolutely amazing, the large diaphragm captures acoustic instruments and vocal tracks amazingly well. I can get a nice full tone range with this mic. I ended up liking using the MXL 3000 mic for recording my wife?s concert grand harp and it did an excellent job. Have found this to do a much better job than the ribbon mics I have. If you want a high quality mic at a good price you should definitely consider a MXL 3000. I also found that the 3000 was excellent on acoustic guitars and violins and acoustic bass guitars. The mic is built well so if it is treated responsibly it should last a long time. The one thing that I found is that you must use a good mic pre with this mic in order to capture its true potential.
