Okay. So I absolutely live this instrument! This bass is extremely solid for a Bolt-On and has wonderful action. The EQ provides a lot of options for tone. The only irritant is the battery pack. You have to open it with a screwdriver. So annoying! Other than that... I wouldn't change a thing.
I was originally going after a Kingston Heir 5, but got the Z instead.
Pros:
Great finish detail. The burl top is beautiful. The neck joint is solid.
The neck feels great, the offset shape is very comfortable. The fretboard is fairly flat and wide enough to be playable.
The sound of the bass is excellent! The pickups and EQ combined with the 35" scale provide good, solid notes all the way down to the low B without ever getting flaby or thin. This makes the B string really usable.
Cons:
The fret work was generally good, producing no buzz from high frets. However, I had to dress the fret ends to remove sharp edges. It is now fine since that was done.
I don't like the battery cutout with a screwed-on cover. The simple act of battery replacement now requires tools and takes too much time. C'mon, you guys, flip-out battery holders have been standard on other basses for a long time!
The output signal could use some more chutzpah. The tone is excellent, but not very loud. Not a huge problem, just an observation.
Now that I have everything dialed in, I love the bass, and recommend it to anyone who asks
Well crafted bass, the design made the material used a lot more expensive. Very nice ergonomics. I personally like the wide neck. And I like how flexible you can tweak the sound from really clean and low to a growly sound. What I dont like though is that you have to unscrew the battery pack at the back in order to replace batteries. But overall for its price.. Definitely a winner.
