A classic rock bass with hand-made quality at a musician friendly price

The Kingston CRB 4-string electric bass has a carved basswood body that is light in weight, but heavy in tone. This innovative bass has the tried-and-true 34" scale length with a bolt-on maple neck that has an asymetrical neck profile that is incredibly fast and comfortable. A 22-fret maple or rosewood fingerboard has a smooth, solid feel and the Buzz Feiten tuning system insures that this bass plays in tune in all positions. Legendary bass builder Mike Tobias took great pains to create a P-style pickup that is both beefy and articulate, with classic tone that kicks. The MTD quick release bridge allows for instant string changes. Case sold separately.

The MTD Kingston CRB is the result of Michael Tobias wanting to create a classic rock bass that still includes many of his innovative design elements. The Kingston CRB 4-String has the quality, tone and playability of expensive hand-made basses at a musician-friendly price. Whether you are pounding 8th notes with a pick or flying high with your fingers, the CRB is the classic weapon of choice!

  • Beautiful

As reviewed by Nisi Jacobs on 9/10/2012

This is my second MTD Kingston bass, the first is a fretless second-hand that is an incredible pleasure to play. The last owner put Bartolini pickups and LaBella nylon black flatwound strings. It is very light and became my favorite bass to practice on but I didn't want to play out on a fretless at this time. I read reviews and looked into the MTD Kingston basses and found that CRB style was the fretted counterpart of the model I had picked up used. There was none in the store to test so GC assured me I could order and then return for full refund. Right out of the box, the CRB was set up just right, the strings that came on it, which are usually what I want to change right off the bat, were sounding great and feeling great. The bass itself sounds and plays so well, I would not trade it for a bass ten times its price, or for any other reason. The MTD Kingston philosophy seems to be immune to the idea that you should stagger quality and playability by price tag tiers. I hear it's a small shop run by American craftspeople and Michael Tobias, the designer and maker, must have that classic pride of a true artist/artisan who won't let his work get dumbed down by outsourcing. The lower priced Kingston basses are priced much lower than other tiers and are not assembled in the US, but they don't suffer a bit for that trade-off. I have been playing a much more expensive Gibson SG for a few years and now have a hard time going back to it after playing my Kingston. Very very happy owner, admirer of the MTD Kingston brand. Thank you, GC!

  • Nice bass

As reviewed by Alan on 4/18/2011

This bass is very simple, but it's tone is just great, you can get whatever tone you want out of it and it also looks very well. I was amazed with it's weight, it's very light... so playing it was very comfortable, it's price is not so expensive and it's a really good bass, I would recommend it to every who wants a good P-bass
