Complete Guitar by Ear is a 2-CD relative pitch ear-training audiobook course with no written text or sheet music. The lessons cover ear training, finger strength, and music theory. Simple enough for the complete beginner; just pop the disc in your CD player and follow along. Total running time: one hour, 41 minutes.
CD 1 is beginner friendly, yet progressive, and features descriptive narration. Starts with a short specified range of notes on the first string. A note is played and held while you match it on your guitar. The range of notes is progressively made larger, adding string after string, note combinations, and exercises. By the end of CD 1, you will have learned every note and note combination on every string of the guitar, plus some very essential music theory and exercises to improve your playing abilities. 36 tracks. 63 minutes.
CD 2 features more music and less narration than CD 1. CD 2 can be used 2 different ways: you can play along to improve your ability to find the notes you hear and build your musical ear, or you can listen to CD 2 anytime, anywhere to help train your musical ear. For example, if you want to memorize the sound quality of a minor third interval, you can put track 4 on loop and listen to the exercises that are played on all strings up and down the fretboard. Do the same for any interval! In the end you will have learned to play every possible note combination on your guitar, as well as identify them when you hear them played in songs. 21 tracks. 38 minutes.

Comments about MJS Music Publications Complete Guitar by Ear (2 CDs):
I always believed that my friends who can't read a single note of music and play by ear soley were born with a special gift. Through constant practice, patience, and a willingness to follow the instructions given on the CD's that comprise MJS Complete Guitar by Ear, I truly believe that I am learning to play by ear. As a person with a disability that caused me to lose all my prior guitar training and music from my brain, this tool opens avenues to learning in an completely different manner that is helping to re-wire my brain musically and in other aspects of brain function. The encouragement to not listen ahead and to not move on until you've mastered each portion of each lesson allows me the extra time I need to truly "learn" to "hear" guitar music (and now all music) in a totally different way. While patience isn't usually one of my virtues, I'm grateful for the approach taken in this set of CD's. I'm confident once I complete the course I will be capable of listening to any piece of music and have the ability to play it by ear. Thank you for creating a product that lets people who thought they would only ever be able to play music by sight reading on the guitar a mechanism for expanding every aspect of their musical skills on the guitar. I find myself taking notes, listening to the section I'm working one all the time, going back to the beginning re-listening to what I've learned, and transposing what I learn by ear into actual standard musical notation. The exercises suggested in each lesson I tend to use to warm-up not only my ear, but my actual fingerwork and technique at the same time. A whole new world of music seems to integrate itself throughout my brain and I'm going to have the best of all worlds, I have no doubt, once I complete this entire course. I cannot believe the difference in how I listen to anything the slightest bit musical. The author has my mind mesmerized and immersed in all kinds of guitar & non-guitar music and it's happening as if by magic. There isn't really any magic it a wonderful benefit of this gifted teacher and method.
