MJS Music Publications Total Scales Techniques and Applications - Bass (Book/CD) (104147079)
Availability:

Learn scales and master the bass.

Recommended for any bassist regardless of playing level or musical taste. It starts with all the basics a beginner needs to know, and moves progressively through advanced and professional level techniques and applications. It is a scale encyclopedia, but more importantly it shows every possible way of using the scales to make music. You learn to play in every key and use every position on the fretboard.

The CD includes many examples to enhance your learning.

"...pure playing with basic scales and also tons of cool exotic scales that intermediate and advanced players will really enjoy. ...tons of cool guitar techniques... a rare resource that you'll use far more than you might anticipate."
Chris Arnold, Guitar Digest Magazine

"Bass Guitar: Total Scales Techniques and Applications (2005, paperback with CD, 160 pp., $24.95) by Mark John Sternal is a complete resource for bassists. At the heart of the book are thirty scales, including major and minor scales as well as Hungarian, Japanese, And other versions. Playing techniques described include double-picking, hammer ons, string bending, string skipping, and harmonics. Every exercise is written in both standard notation and guitar tablature, and a note chart shows adaptations for four-, five-, and six-string instruments." D. • Looks to be a great book

As reviewed by mark haley on 4/17/2012

I wanted to begin playing bass, so I began messing around with bass guitars at GC in my price range to see which ones I felt comfortable with. Anyway, I started talking to one of the salesmen and he recommended this book. So I went home and started reading some of the reviews and decided to buy it. Some of the reviews state that the author wrote this book for guitar and just revised it for bass, which happens to be true as the author states himself in the book. All in all this seems like a very well written book and I feel it will be a great asset while learning to play bass. MJS also has these same lessons in DVD format which I may buy to compliment the book lessons.
