A direct box for MIDI.

The one-in 4-out MIDI thru box from MIDI Solutions sends all messages from the input to all 4 outputs. Active circuitry cleans up any skewing of MIDI data bits occurring at the input, ensuring reliable operation in setups that require daisy-chaining or long cable runs. The MIDI Solutions Quadra Thru is MIDI-powered and requires no batteries or power supply. A MIDI indicator LED lights up when powered, and flashes as MIDI data passes through.

  • Does exactly what it says

As reviewed by Stephen on 10/4/2009

It's cheap and it works perfectly. The MIDI light is a really nice feature. Nothing more to say but "works as advertised"

  • The device seems to cause what it intends to prevent (for me)

As reviewed by Mark on 10/10/2014

I purchased this device for rack of three multitimbral synthesizer modules and a drum machine all getting their MIDI data from an Alesis MMT-8 hardware sequencer. I noticed that my Roland XV-5080 was dropping notes in sequenced parts with dismay. It also started to happen with my Yamaha Motif Rack ES. A third synth and the drum machine did not seem to do this with the frequency of the two synths mentioned, but I did detect it periodically. Since removing the MIDI through box and using the conventional MIDI through daisy chain from one device directly to another, the problem has vanished. I certainly do not think my installation was complex by professional production standards so I have to believe the unit was defective in some way. I do not want to flame this product but I think it is fair to warn potential buyers that the possibility of getting MIDI communication errors and dropped data is there and you should be mindful of that.

  • Show Saver

As reviewed by Chris Pickett on 5/7/2011

What a cheap little box and what a great value. I am involved in a complicated show, and we have to use MTC to sync stuff from the video playback to properly control lighting and a secondary projection. Since the video playback is with the director, it is 50 cable feet away from FOH(which is located at side of house) where I am, running the mix, lighting and side projections. Already nevous with pushing MIDI down a 50-foot cable, I was worried this box wasn't up to the challenge. I had to split the MIDI at FOH so the lighting could see MTC on a dedicated port on the MIDI interface, and the side projection can see MTC on a different dedicated port on the same MIDI interface. The device work flawlessly. Plus, with the blinking light, it's easy for the director to see if she forgot to send MTC to me or not(the software won't do it by default). The blinking light also means I can leave my little MIDI presence tester in the case of adaptors. 4 way splitting for only a bit more than 2 way splitting. I'm already thinking of new possibilities. Small, compact, user-friendly and super affordable. What's not to like? Having to order this right before the show to deal with the time code issues, it was a risk. I tell you now, it's not. It's now a mandatory item for this show! If I recommend a product, it's good. Period. I ain't got time for junk. This is NOT junk. If you need inexpensive, reliable splitting, it works. And it worked at the receiving end of a 50-foot MIDI cable without a glitch! It also survived my torture testing of emulating the show environment and behaviors.
