Conectiv, developed by M-Audio's SynchroScience division, is the world's first bus-powered 4 x 4 USB audio interface designed for DJs who perform and produce tracks with a laptop. Together, Conectiv and the included Torq software form the ultimate DJ tool—high-fidelity audio, all the right kinds of I/O (including dual phono preamps), and the ability to mix, beat-match and cue digital files with ease. Use them as a completely digital solution and leave the heavy stacks of vinyl or bulky wallets of CDs at home—or process your vinyl and CDs on the fly. You can even create a hybrid digital/vinyl DJ rig by using Conectiv and Torq with specially encoded control vinyl discs or CDs. Torq supports popular formats such as MP3, WAV, WMA and AAC files and is configured to automatically work with Conectiv—no messy set-ups. And unlike most digital DJ systems, Conectiv works with other third-party software as well.
SynchroScience—Designed for Real-time Performance
M-Audio's new SynchroScience product development group is all about providing DJs with the tools they need —as evidenced by the portable and powerful Conectiv interface. With two pairs of stereo inputs and outputs, easy USB connectivity and included Torq DJ software, Conectiv can turn any compatible Mac or PC into a powerful DJ rig. The two large knobs allow you to seamlessly mix between the incoming audio from a turntable or CD player with the output of a connected Mac or PC. Conectiv also includes standard DJ cueing capabilities, so you can listen to any track in your headphones before sending it out to the house system.
The included Torq DJ software is a dual-platform application that allows you to mix, beat-match and cue a variety of digital audio file formats, including MP3, AIFF, WAV, WMA and AAC. The first time you boot up the software, it automatically configures itself to work with Conectiv. Furthermore, the software itself can be controlled via mouse, keyboard, MIDI controller or control vinyl/CDs. And unlike traditional DJ set-ups where you're forced to carry around heavy crates of records or CDs, Torq organizes all of your digital files into a quickly searchable database on a compact, convenient hard disk—it can even interface directly with your iTunes library for truly effortless setup. And if that's not enough, Torq supports third-party VST effect plug-ins and includes both a dedicated 16-cell sampler and performance recorder.
For the DJ who chooses to work with vinyl or CDs, Conectiv can turn a laptop into the most versatile DJ effects unit ever conceived. By routing the output of a connected turntable or CD player into a program like Torq or Ableton Live, you can process your tracks with tons of plug-in effects. Imagine the possibilities of stacking multiple distortion, EQ, reverb, chorus or bit reduction effects and using the knobs on Conectiv to blend the dry and processed signals. And by using industry-standard CoreAudio and ASIO drivers, Conectiv delivers low-latency operation on both Mac and PC.
Are you eager to embrace the world of computer-based DJing, but not ready to give up the feel of your favorite turntable or CD player? Not a problem.. Simply break out a pair of control vinyl discs or CDs, and spin digital files loaded in Torq using a traditional DJ setup. And unlike most—more expensive—digital vinyl systems, Conectiv is also compatible with other third-party DJ and DAW applications—you can even use it as an audio interface for Pro Tools M-Powered.
While laptop systems have long offered conveniences like portability, unique effects, world-class editing options and instant access to downloadable music, many of these devices don't deliver the same output volume as traditional DJ products. Conectiv changes all of that. With a maximum output level of +2dBV, Conectiv gives you more volume than you need and can go to toe-to-toe with any DJ product on the market.
M-Audio interfaces are known for their recording quality and Conectiv is no exception. With switchable RCA phono/line level inputs and 1/4" mic input, you can easily record a wide variety of sources with most DAW software titles, including Pro Tools M-Powered, Ableton Live, Logic, Cubase, Digital Performer and more.

I think M-Audio smoked the competition with the software for Torq. The hardware is not the best but the software has everything the others don't from version 1. The timecode and time stretch is, believe it or not, better than Serato and Traktor. I picked up traktor because of the price drop and the hardware is the best thing about it. I wish I could use the hardware with the Torq but its kool.
All of my equipment is brand new from Gutair Center alll purchased less than a month ago....Conectiv stinks!!!! Yes, it has a ton of bells and whistles but where it counts Conective falls short....Ive downloaded all current drivers for both the Conectiv and for the Torq program and the track "drift" is really bad!!!! And its things like that that matter to a working DJ.....If your just chillin in your bedroom or basement and you dont wanna fork out the extra bucks for Serato then Torq is for you!!!! But if you make your living spinning records....DONT GO OUT ON THE CHEAP!!!!! You really do get what you pay for!!!!!
I have used Torq Conectiv for 3 1/2 yrs now. In my opinion Torq is the most stable, most solid program. I have used Serato and Final Scratch and they run a close second but Torq is arguably the best! Good features and very user friendly plus a great price makes this program the top choice in book.
I Bought Torq About a year ago and it hasn't let me down Ever.I have yet to use all the feature that come with it. The sky is the limit to your creativness. If You want to take your game to the next level, Torq is the way to go. The only thing I recommend is that you have a farely decetn computer and go to their forum to tweak your system for the best experience either torq.
I was really impressed with this software after much deliberation and research. I purchased this because of the capabilities to remix live without the need to run another laptop for ableton or any other software program for your live set. I hooked it up to my laptop without any major hiccups and was spinning that afternoon. The only issue i had was that all the songs from my music files weren't transferred to the program when I was searching for it. I believe this will be resolved after taking advantage of the free upgrade to Torq 1.5. But so far the vinyl controls are almost close to the real thing when beat juggling and scratching. Remember I said "almost" because nothing beats a warm analog sound with actual vinyl when spinning so I will have to adjust the feel of my control discs. Nevertheless, I can't wait to play with the additional features and start putting together my remixes. I also love the fact I can use my hybrid turntables to use the cd controllers. This will help me smooth out the transition until all those songs from my cd collection are on my laptop and a memory card.
The Torq Connective is amazing!!! It has seemingly flawless controls, great built in effects, and it's easy to find the music you want in the browser! The only thing is it usually takes 10-15 minustes to start up the program everytime due to all the music i have stored. Other than that it is perfect for any type of Dj whether youre just starting or have been Djing for years. This is a must buy product.
I have read about both Serato versus Torq. Both seem to pretty much do the same thing. I had seen both setups used at different clubs and parties. I based my decision to purchase the Torq Conectiv on the price. The system is easy to setup and the website provides plenty of support via the forum, videos, or tech support. I was a little overwhelmed at first, but 30 minutes of looking at videos from the site and experimenting, it almost appeared as if I was a seasoned DJ using this setup. For the money, it is a definite great buy. No more cases of vinyl or cds. All I use now is the external hard drive. The tagging for all the music is still finicky so one with gigs of music might have to spend time editing tags. I use a dedicated minimal spec laptop to run my setup and it works like a champ. I still want to buy the Serato just to have and experiment. But if you are short on funds, Torq is a definite way to get started and keep up with the trend.
M-Audio has really surprised me! I'm very pleased with this product. I use Conectiv Torq with the time-coded vinyl and to be honest, i was really blown away about it's amazing features. Installation and setup is a breeze. The software is 99.9% accurate when it comes to BPM detection. You might have some issues if the MP3 isn't high quality. Some minor issues I've had is that if you are working on tagging your music for a while, (for examples you are working on tagging about 100s songs for hours) the software might freeze. Another thing, if you don't have the connective amp that you plug in your decks or turntables, handy, the software will not work. All in all, i use it in clubs and I'm blown away by it's features and components!! I give at an A!!
The hardware for this and the interface I have found to be flawless. The software is something to be desired. I am hoping the next release overhauls the playlist/database interface. Don't buy a xponent this software works almost effortless with any midi controller, especially the trigger finger.
