Overview

Recording professionals around the world trust M-Audio Studiophile reference monitors for exceptional sonic accuracy. The new Studiophile BX8a Deluxe system builds on this legacy with new waveguides and enhanced driver integration for greater high-frequency clarity and refined sound. The magnetically shielded monitors feature 8" curved Kevlar low-frequency drivers plus high-temperature voice coils and damped rubber surrounds for durability and fidelity. The 1-1/4" natural silk, waveguide-loaded tweeters deliver a high end that's both clear and easy on the ears. Custom-tuned crossovers distribute 130 watts of bi-amplified power for optimal frequency handling by each driver.

Deluxe edition
The Studiophile BX8a Deluxe monitors update the best-selling M-Audio BX8a system with a variety of enhancements. The new waveguide delivers a cleaner sound. Custom amplifier tuning enhances the integration between the high and low frequencies, delivering refined spectral balance and a smoother response. An elegant new industrial design completes the package.

Kevlar low-frequency drivers
To insure a lifetime of service, M-Audio constructed the BX8a monitor's 8" low-frequency driver from woven Kevlar. Kevlar's high mechanical and thermal resilience makes it ideal for use in speaker cones. M-Audio's engineers also created a curved conical design that improves room dispersion. High-damping reliable rubber surrounds provide percussive musical bass, and ensure that the cone reaches its optimal excursion for accurate reproduction. And M-Audio's high-temperature voice coils reduce power compression, guaranteeing that your monitors will deliver full performance hour after hour.

Silk-dome, waveguide-loaded, high-frequency drivers
M-Audio's high-frequency domes are made from natural silk to counter the high Q ringing that is inherent in the poorly crafted metallic materials often found in other monitors. In addition, M-Audio's new waveguides refine the high-frequency response. M-Audio's FerroFlow technology uses ferrofluid liquid cooling to dissipate heat for maximum efficiency and extended usage.

Bi-amplified efficiency
Active monitors have a distinct advantage over unpowered monitors because the built-in power amps are specially designed to work with the drivers and crossovers in a tuned system. Bi-amplification further refines the concept by dedicating separate power amps to the highs and lows. Combined with a finely tuned crossover, this design insures that both the high- and low-frequency drivers are asked to deliver only the frequencies they are most efficient at reproducing.

Rear-ported cabinet design
The Studiophile BX8a Deluxe monitor's cabinet is integrally designed with its other components for optimal performance - right down to rounded corners for reduced edge diffraction and superior imaging. Custom rear-port design audibly reduces the turbulence and resulting distortion caused by poorly designed ports.

Magnetic shielding
Unchecked, the electromagnetic waves emanating from your speakers can wreak havoc with your computer's video monitor or a nearby TV. The BX8a Deluxe is magnetically shielded so that all of your electronic equipment can coexist without interference.

These Speakers are Extremely Loud. Some of the best Monitors Ive ever heard for the price. However if your using them for a personal studio/ home studio (who isn't nowadays)and their right next to desk within a couple feet i would just purchase the BX5a. They are overkill on your mix and. The bass on the BX8A are too wide in sound and not your typical punch. You might have to throw it into the mixer and assign to a channel then to XLR versus Sound card to Monitors. I have both the BX8A and BX5A's. Hopes this helps to anyone planning to purchase!

I have had these speakers for about 2 months and one of them has failed. It makes horrible crackling noises and even with the volume all the way down makes an obnoxious pop when it is turned off. There is no physical damage to the unit on the outside. M-Audio expects me to pay for shipping back to them to fix poor quality merchandise. That's not cheap at 26 lbs. Given other reviews it sounds like a massive exercise in futility. It would appear their repair department is as inept as the rest of the company. Their technical support took a week just to forward it to repairs where I can run up a long distance phone bill if I want to talk to someone about it. I have a few M-Audio products and can honestly say I am underwhelmed and frustrated with their customer service on a number of levels. I will not buy another M-Audio product again...

More punch for the money!

By H2Ro

from Fort Lauderdale, FL

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Deluxe Active Monitors:

I've recently upgraded the monitors in my studio to the BX8a Deluxe. I was blown away by the sound they produced...full, clean, and low end so fat, I don't even use the subwoofer. That's coming from a loyal M-Audio BX5 user (chuckle). Go with what you know.

Good sound, terrible reliability!!

By Ryan

from Portland, OR

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Deluxe Active Monitors:

I've had these monitors for about 8 months and i'm sending my third one in, again, for repairs! I had one of them go out in the first 30 days and exchanged it. Three months later another goes out. I send it in for repairs. I get it back and less than 24 hours later it's out again! The monitors sound good but have been such a pain! I will never buy another M-Audio product. Buy a KRK instead!

Buyer Beware!

By Chris

from New York, NY

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Deluxe Active Monitors:

As others here have mentioned these speakers may sound ok, but they are HORRIBLE QUALITY! I've had mine about 3 months now and one of them died on me just the other day. Not to mention that when I first purchased the monitors I got them home, opened the box, and one of them - from the FACTORY - was already blown. What's more, M-Audio's customer service SUCKS. One thing is for sure, I'll NEVER buy an M-Audio product ever again.

Great monitors!

By Steve

from Bakersfield, CA

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Deluxe Active Monitors:

Let me just start by saying with any studio monitor you buy, you must train your ear and learn their response. Don't expect to get the perfect mix the first time nor judge the speaker based on the final mix in your car. It will take time to train your ear and your mixes will improve. M-audio did an Excellent job with this monitor the kevlar cones make for a nice tight bass, the high frequency response is pleasant to work with and makes for a great monitor for those long mixing sessions. I have seen these monitors used in professional environments and as mentioned earlier if you can train your ear to them and learn their reference they will be an excellent choice for anyone starting in the area of recording or even for the seasoned engineer. i would highly recommend these monitors to anyone. The cost of the monitors is but a fraction compared to the quality of their performance. I highly recommend to spend time moving the monitors around to get the sweet spot, you may need to treat your room with some diffusion just like in any studio..diffusion treatment is essential to a great mix with any monitor..Keep in mind that there are numerous things that contribute to the mix aside from just your monitors. Its not as easy as buying a pair of monitors and mixing...take the time to acoustically treat the mixing station and you will find your experience to be a very enjoyable one! Cheers!!

Do NOT buy..

By Jes

from Cleveland, Ohio

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Deluxe Active Monitors:

I've had these speakers literally, for 24 hours. Installed them here to get a test run going on them. Haven't cranked these one bit, and noticed the speakers crack. Even with dead sound and powered on. Checked all connections, and updated drivers just in case but we still have the same issue. Also, upon checking the connections we noticed that one of the speakers has a slight cut about 1/4 inch long in it. After reading the numerous reviews online stating the common defects, I will be taking these back for a different brand.

Amazing Monitors

By Jacob Roys

from Kalamazoo, MI

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Deluxe Active Monitors:

I recently sold my Bx5a monitors and picked up a pair of Bx8a. I loved my Five's, and now I love my eight's!! There is a noticeable difference in overall sound quality between the two models. The main thing I noticed is that I don't need to use my sub anymore. These 8" cones really add so much bass to the mix. Good luck finding a place to put them though, they're HUGE. Definitely recommend these to everyone from the amateur audio buff to the Professional Music Producer. PS they're also Very Heavy, so don't put them up high unless it's very secure.

RATING BASED ON SOUND A+

By Alex

from Hialeah Gardens, FL

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Deluxe Active Monitors:

Just purchased a pair today. The clarity is amazing, no need for headphones when mixing. Make sure you have enough space to fit these bad boys because they are humungous. The bass response is sweet, does not overdo it. Mids are clear and highs as well. so far from what I see I'm really happy with my purchase I think you will to.

Tainted Quality

Not Sure

By Justin

from Winter Park, Fl

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Deluxe Active Monitors:

I bought these speakers a few days ago on black friday weekend. I think the clarity is really good. The highs are a little fuzzy but not so much to interfere. One thing is for sure, they are very bassy. I am still deciding whether or not I am keeping them. I can always adjust the bass a bit, but it just makes you wonder what i haven't found out yet. Don't be discouraged, the price is great, and you may not notice the bass. I just gave it 3 stars because I am not blown away. They may end up to be amazing monitors, I just haven't had much time to get there yet.

Great Monitors

By Isaias

from Corona, CA

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Deluxe Active Monitors:

I've had mine over 2 years now (BX8a) and have had no quality issues with them. They sound just as great as when they came out of the box and I've had both up to 80% sustained though I usually only need to run them at about 40%. I highly recommend them.

Not true studio monitors, but awesome if you also use them as just speakers

By Cameron C

from Concord, CA

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Deluxe Active Monitors:

I knew going into buying these that they are not completely flat, hence not being true studio monitors, but i do love them. they are great! the mids are kinda weak, but nothing that makes me regret buying them. the highs are brilliant, the the lows have great feel, even when turned way down. i have been running them at 1/4 volume with my mixer at 1/2 and they still pump!

Not the best pair of speakers

By nestor cardenas

from hollister, ca

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Deluxe Active Monitors:

I've had a pair of these for a good while now and these monitors give you a bad mix. The mix does not carry over very accurately. They give off too much bass and lack good high/mid range. I personally would not recommend these for someone who is serious about mixing music.
