YES! I had 4 pioneer 6 inches and a Yamaha reciever at the time. This takes away all that unessesary stuff. They sound better than that system. There for monitoring not shaking th wall. You can always purchase a floor subwoofer if you needed it. They do have some pretty good bass as they are. If you want to buy the right stuff at the right price, dont bother looking at more reviews, just go for these. I also have the Lambda usb card and it doesn't have an off switch for the options to listen to headphones. Just turn these monitors off and there you go. Good combination. Get those too.

They sound great like the other reviews say, but my powered speaker went up in smoke just after the warranty expired. My guess is the amp circuit died. M-Audio/AVID are not easy to deal with either. And it is $40/hour labor + parts and shipping to get these fixed when I can buy another pair for a small bit more. I am looking into a different brand.

Perfect for Home Studios

By Peejay

from Virginia Beach, VA

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

I purchased these after reading reviews and believe me all the reviews are correct. These monitors are perfect for a home studio. I heard things in my music that i never heard before. They are compact so they do not take up that much space. They do not knock pictures off the wall but they are loud enough. If you are on a budget and want some great monitors look no further.

Solid.

By OwlByrd

from Huntington Beach, CA

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

Great sound in a small package. More then enough for my modest home studio project. Flat response, great for reference monitioring. Mixing made more simple with an honest representation of recording without coloration. Bass boost botton in back for a bit more bottom end if needed. Volume knob in front, power in rear. Worth the wait for ordering. Very pleased, now back to work.

Excellent Monitors

By Charles Small

from Brooklyn, NY

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

Great monitors. Once i plugged them in and played my music i started hearing things in the music that i didnt know existed before, especially bass. But over time that led me to notice that for mixing they dont quite give you a flat response. they are kind of sensitive on the bass end, you do get a bit of a boost through them, so you have to be mindful of this during mixing. other than that, well worth the price and suitable for all-around use.

Amazing

By E. Scott

from PA

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

I received these speakers for Christmas and I am still blown away by them. The sound is crisp and clear... amazing really. Primarily, I use them for mixing, which is 10 times easier than it was previously, thanks to their amazing accuracy. However, I have also found that they are, by far, the best speakers in my house for simply listening to music. From jazz to classical to rock, the clarity is stunning. If anyone is looking for some amazing monitors for a small home studio, this is the set to buy. They are truly amazing.

Great For Computer Music, A Step up from normal speakers for Mixing

By Alex

from Las Vegas

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

The speakers make your set up look better, they're big but not too big and they make my set-up look a little more professional than just having regular stock computer speakers. The sound is good for music that's already mixed and mastered. But if you're trying to do it yourself I would advise a better pair of monitors but if you're on a budget these can really get the job done. They are the best speakers you can buy for this price and they have a great sound and look to them. I don't use the bass boost much because I honestly don't need to. The bass is really warm and on point but at times it can be a little to distorted with the bass boost. They're loud and the bass is just right for computer monitors, they don't shake the walls at all but that's better for listening at high volume and these speakers can really get there. After they warm up, they're good to go.

These Speakers are great!

By Mike

from Tampa, FL

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

I needed some speakers for the house to practice my DJ sets, so I went down to the local Guitar Center. The guy in the store suggested these he hooked up one speaker to a IPod and the sound blew me away! All that sound came from one speaker! Once I got them home and hooked up both speakers I was throughly impressed! If you are looking for some smaller speakers to connect your DJ equipment to without paying a arm and leg. Then go and buy these speakers.

By Ja-Nice

from Sumter, SC

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

I bought the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System pair about 4 months ago and they work very well especially in home studios. If your trying to save money and hear your music professionally i would consider you to invest in these speakers. The speaker pair has Highs built into them along with Sub-woofers that offer a better sound for the engineer.

By T-dog

from Crystal Lake, Illinois

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

Just bought these, and out of the box - WOW! You will not find a better speaker system for this money. These work great for monitoring AND hi-fi(listening to music off an I-pod, etc). There is plenty of clean bass, and the mids and highs are crisp and beautiful. Great input options as well as a headphone jack and 1/8 inch input on the front of the unit. These are great. BELIEVE IT!

OMG! These are incredible!

By I Can't Believe It

from Jacksonville, FL

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

I plugged these in five minutes ago, and I know already: these are the best monitors I've ever bought, no doubt! The bass is full and crisp (full as in I don't even have the bass boost on, and my studio is vibrating); the highs are crisp but not shrill...these puppies are the definition of fidelity. Can't believe the price--can't wait to start working on my projects! Thank you M-Audio!!!

BOO!

By JHeat

from Seminole, Ok

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

Im a christian rapper, and when i went to purchase recording equipment, they referred me these speakers, and to my liking, they did not match up to par for me! Im the kind of person who likes BASS...and i mean BASS! These speakers are not made for someone who likes BOOM in their music! They would be ideal for someone just beginning, or not really wanting much BOOM out of their music! But other than that, i dont recommend these speakers.

Beautiful beginner setup!

By Adam Sutkiewicz

from Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

These things are awesome. It probably took two seconds to set them up. My old monitors blew out, and I was stuck mixing simply through my sony mdr heaphones. Enough time went by and I was fed up, I needed to get new monitors. I plugged them in, listened to my recent mixes, and was finally able to work again! I was able to solve sound issues I've been having for months in 10 minutes. The Bass boost on these things are awesome too. Clarity is a 10/10 on these speakers. Don't pass up these monitors.
