Overview

The compact Studiophile AV 40 powered reference monitors deliver the same proven M-Audio technology favored by producers, recording engineers and musicians around the world. The combination of 4" polypropylene-coated drivers and 3/4" ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeters provides punchy lows, crisp highs and a balanced, uncolored response. Custom cabinets with dense wood construction deliver more accurate bass response than you could ever get from plastic multimedia speakers. And for the highest possible fidelity, the Studiophile AV 40 monitors also feature OptImage III wave-guide technology and a 20 watt-per-channel internal amplifier that utilizes Class A/B architecture. The Studiophile AV 40 monitor speakers are the perfect solution for traveling musicians or anyone who wants top-notch sound from their desktop multimedia system.

OptImage III Technology
M-Audio's proprietary OptImage III wave guide improves overall detail and clarity while minimizing sound issues that can plague other compact monitors. The system works by improving the overall efficiency of the tweeter as well as time-aligning the drivers. This ensures that the audio from each driver reaches the listener at the same time, guaranteeing precise stereo imaging and accurate response.

YES! I had 4 pioneer 6 inches and a Yamaha reciever at the time. This takes away all that unessesary stuff. They sound better than that system. There for monitoring not shaking th wall. You can always purchase a floor subwoofer if you needed it. They do have some pretty good bass as they are. If you want to buy the right stuff at the right price, dont bother looking at more reviews, just go for these. I also have the Lambda usb card and it doesn't have an off switch for the options to listen to headphones. Just turn these monitors off and there you go. Good combination. Get those too.

They sound great like the other reviews say, but my powered speaker went up in smoke just after the warranty expired. My guess is the amp circuit died. M-Audio/AVID are not easy to deal with either. And it is $40/hour labor + parts and shipping to get these fixed when I can buy another pair for a small bit more. I am looking into a different brand.

Very good, but not perfect

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

These are truly great monitors for the price, however some flaws kept me from giving them 5 stars. First, the 1/8" cable for connecting an external audio source is cheaply made and doesn't plug securely into the Aux In socket of the monitor, or to the headphone output of the external device. Even a slight movement of the cable during playback will produce extremely loud cracks and pops, which can easily blow up the speakers. If you buy it, replace the cable at your earliest convenience with a quality product, such as Monster cable. The major drawback for me is the fact that even with a pair of headphones connected to the dedicated front-panel output of the monitor, the sound from the mixer still leaks into the speakers. In my home studio, where the mics and monitors are located in the same small room, this doesn't make recording any easier. To record vocals or an acoustic instrument, one has to connect the headphones to the mixer and turn the monitor power off. Otherwise, it's a great product and I would definitely recommend it to a home recording enthusiast on a tight budget.

Beautiful beginner setup!

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

These things are awesome. It probably took two seconds to set them up. My old monitors blew out, and I was stuck mixing simply through my sony mdr heaphones. Enough time went by and I was fed up, I needed to get new monitors. I plugged them in, listened to my recent mixes, and was finally able to work again! I was able to solve sound issues I've been having for months in 10 minutes. The Bass boost on these things are awesome too. Clarity is a 10/10 on these speakers. Don't pass up these monitors.

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

I can't find a bad thing to say about these! They took my little home studio to a whole new level... Sound that comes from these little speakers is just plain amazing!! Crisp highs. Plenty of bass! I was worried some about the bass end but upon hearing them for the 1st time all worries were put to rest.... The bass is there! Just as crisp n clean as the highs! For the home studio on a budget you simple can't go wrong with these....

Great quality, great price

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

if you're like me, you've been ripping your hair out trying to find the BEST deal on monitors for the price. The fact is, there is no ONE right decision, it's all a matter of choice/preference! The best thing I can suggest is 1. do your research and 2. demo/listen to each of your favorites and compare them side to side. For me, it was down to these and the Krk G2's... ended up going with these and have yet to be disappointed! OF COURSE there are bigger and better monitors! But for the money I honestly know the quality of these cannot be beat! Picked up the floor models at my local guitar center. If you're considering these, PICK THEM UP! You won't be disappointed! GREAT for the person on a budget!

BOO!

By

from Seminole, Ok

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

Im a christian rapper, and when i went to purchase recording equipment, they referred me these speakers, and to my liking, they did not match up to par for me! Im the kind of person who likes BASS...and i mean BASS! These speakers are not made for someone who likes BOOM in their music! They would be ideal for someone just beginning, or not really wanting much BOOM out of their music! But other than that, i dont recommend these speakers.

These Speakers are great!

By

from Tampa, FL

Comments about M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Reference Speaker System - Pair:

I needed some speakers for the house to practice my DJ sets, so I went down to the local Guitar Center. The guy in the store suggested these he hooked up one speaker to a IPod and the sound blew me away! All that sound came from one speaker! Once I got them home and hooked up both speakers I was throughly impressed! If you are looking for some smaller speakers to connect your DJ equipment to without paying a arm and leg. Then go and buy these speakers.
