Great Replacement Pedal

By Steve S.

from Piscataway, NJ

Comments about M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal:

This has been an excellent replacement for a more utilitarian pedal that was damaged in a flood. This pedal has "substance", feel, and is very reponsive. No regrets.

Good for beginners... Serious keyboardists: look elsewhere!

By Mike

from Oceanside, CA

Comments about M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal:

When I purchased my MO8 keyboard about 11 months ago, I bought this pedal as a cheap starter sustain pedal. It worked until just recently. For for some reason, it suddenly required much more weight put on it to activate the sustain. The rubber pad in the actual pedal part was physically touching the plastic nub on the base, but it required my actual standing on top of the pedal to work. It's trigger range also diminished to about a millimeter when the weight problem started. A shame, because this pedal was brilliant until I really started putting it to work... something a good pedal should be able to handle. Regardless, this pedal is still great for beginners, hobbyists, or occasional performers. But if you're a serious gigging musician- or even if you practice a lot- I would go with a different pedal. I recommend the Roland DP-10 sustain pedal, even if you don't have a Roland keyboard. It's switchable between Continuous (for half-damper compatibility) and Switch settings, and it's less slippery on floors then the M-Audio - a problem I had many a time!

3 years and going strong

By Verdict

from Seattle, WA

Comments about M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal:

I picked up this pedal when I got my Korg Triton LE 88 a little over three years ago. It's worked very well for me and hasn't let me down once. I bought this for use as a sustain pedal and it's action and precision are very similar to a real acoustic piano. As for durability, after three years, I have no complaints. I must admit that I don't gig with it, but I do however play almost everyday on it and it was used for a six month stretch doubling as my brother's rock band kick drum pedal because the one that came with his game broke. Currently, I'm also using it as a kick drum pedal input on my alesis control pad and it works great for that too. I have no problems with durablility but that is just my experience with it. Judging by the other reviews I've read, I'd probably look around for a good one or test it out if you're concerned with quality control issues. I've had nothing but good experiences with mine. Oh yeah, and I got one for my dad and he's been enjoying his for about two years now also.

An excellent choice for a sustain pedal!

By The Piano Master

from Fernley, NV

Comments about M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal:

This sustain pedal is the one of the best electronic pedals I've ever seen and used! It doesn't move around like the flimsy SP-3 pedals that usually come with a new digital piano. It also looks and feels like a real sustain pedal on an acoustic piano. So, you can't go wrong with this pedal, especially because at what it's priced at. I hope this review helps. See ya!

Weird Problem

By Kim

from Virginia Beach, VA

Comments about M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal:

Loved the feel of this pedal when I first got it, I hate playing on a keyboard and prefer a piano, but apartments don't lend themselves to good piano storage. About a year and a half after I bought it I noticed the sustain action dying as well, looked at the cord and the metal bit of the plug is corroded with little pit marks that look like acid has been eating away at it. Not sure if this is the same thing others are experiencing when the sustain stops working, but it's frustrating for sure!

I purchased this for my Akai MPK49 and it performs flawlessly! Not only is it built with a real metal pedal, but it has an included polarity switch! Perfect sustain and perfect overall performance.

Works well and good value.

By MONICA KOCH

from Iowa City

Comments about M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal:

Got this at a good sale price and have been using it for a month. It is sturdy, well constructed and feels like the real thing. Plugged it into the Casio CDP-120 and it worked right the way. It comes with a rubber "sock" that goes over the metal tongue which not only protects it, but I like the softer feel especially when you have to do a lot of quick press and release.

Good starter pedal. Needs repairing after a few months. Not for gigging or live performances.

By Michael Salgado

from Southern California

Comments about M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal:

This was one of the first pedals I bought a long while back at Guitar Center. After around the half year mark the pedal began to fail. It had intermittent functionality. As others have stated, it took a bit of fudging with the cable to get it working. I took it apart and noticed that the cable was getting chewed up by the mechanical part of the pedal itself. I re-soldered it on and re-positioned the cable to be out of the way completely. I also had used some epoxy to make doubly sure that it wouldn't start getting chewed up again. Since then it hasn't failed. It's been 3 years. If your pedal fails and you are proficient at basic soldering, take it apart and do a quick fix-it. The short stuff: If you want a decent low-priced starter practice pedal, this will work. Just keep in mind what others and I have stated. However, if you are looking for a performance pedal, or something that you can have confidence with in not failing you while gigging, this is definitely not the pedal for you. It might eventually leave you hanging mid-performance. I still use this as a spare practice pedal for a separate keyboard after repairing it myself. I've since moved on to other pedals.
