I just ordered a few pedals for my rig and was surprised at how well constructed this M-Audio SP-1 is. I bought a Korg PS-1 for twice the price in the same order and find them to be equals.

This M-Audio SP-1 features a full (cast or sheet?) metal body and a clearly defined polarity switch. I added it to the order expecting a basic plastic switch but it feels very sturdy. Comparatively, the Korg is slightly smaller and lighter (plastic base, but just as sturdy). However the cord on the Korg feels better - rubber cased whereas the M-Audio feels like plastic. If the cords were the same I would tend to say the M-Audio was better at either price.

If I was ordering again today I'd get two M-Audio PS-1's but they are so close to the Korg that it's not worth the $15 for the hassle of exchanging (and I like the yellow color of the Korg to tell the two apart during a gig).

I'll give 5 stars for now, out of the box, but will update if needed, after taking them both on the road.

One note: the "M-Audio" label on mine is black, embossed in the rubber face, not white as in the picture. Doesn't really matter to me but thought I'd point out the difference.

Well made and the short throw on this pedal is a great thing

Comments about M-Audio SP-1 Sustain Pedal:

This pedal is very rugged and well-made, and doesn't slide at all because of its weight and the rubber non-skid base. I've used the sustain pedals that look like an acoustic piano damper pedal and I'd have to say that I prefer this one for electronic keyboards because of the reason one reviewer didn't like it. It has a short throw and is easy to press. Most electronic keyboards (even high end ones) basically have a sustain function that is either off or on, unlike an acoustic piano damper, so this pedal is perfect for electronic keyboards. My foot is less tired because to activate sustain, this pedal only needs to be pressed about a half inch, compared to piano damper style pedals that require about a inch and a half throw to activate.

Comments about M-Audio SP-1 Sustain Pedal:

It doesn't have the gradual range of sustain as a larger, more traditional sus pedal- it's pretty much either on or off, but it works, it's tiny and the price is right. I use the SP-2 at home and the SP-1 when I'm going' mobile. Fits easy in the pocket of my Gator bag and works well with my Juno.

Comments about M-Audio SP-1 Sustain Pedal:

Bought this to replace the Yamaha sustain foot pedal that didn't work. This pedal will sustain or dampen, depending how you set the polarity switch. (A nice feature!) I'd prefer a classic piano style shaped pedal, but this does the trick. Seems to be solid and I'm hoping it holds up to regular gigging.

Comments about M-Audio SP-1 Sustain Pedal:

This is not the cheap plastic one's you are thinking of. This box is heavy-grade metal for its size; weighs about one pound. The applied pads on top and bottom are made of ruberized (not 'plastic') anti-skid meterial. I'm impressed for this price. And the top pedal is secured by metal screws where it swivels, engaging the sustain mechanism. Haven't used it yet 'cause my keyboard won't arrive until tomorrow. Will write more if something unexpect happens. Until then, go for it!

I use it as the remote switch for a Boss DS-2 pedal, with the polarity switch on. Allows the softer distortion option I to be normal, and pushing of the m-audio switches the DS-2 to option II.
