I am a beginner as far as recording vocals. I bought this interface off of ebay for only 69 dollars (brand new). I gotta say this interface is pretty good as far as quality. I upgraded from that cheesy audio buddy which was outputting too much bass on my vocals, and made it hard to hear the vocals over beats, so do not mess with that thing. This outputs a little bass on the vocals, which is fine, but it doesn't make the vocals peak like the audio buddy. The quality is crispy. I normalize my vocals to 200 percent to see how clear it was and it still sounded good. If you plan on buying this, try to get the deal that I got. It also powers up from USB. It requires no adapter, so that made me even more satisfied. If anyone wants to hear a demo of how it sounds, just email me: cncblack@yahoo.com

I picked this up from a Guitar Center retail store on New Years Eve hoping that I would go home and be able to record vocals without a problem. I plugged it to my HP DV6000se series laptop, only for the output to be extremely low with a ridiculous amount of white noise (hissing). At first I thought it was the DAW, but I tried it in three different programs, so it wasnt the issue. Come to find out, the Mobilepre doesnt put out enough power to record through XLR. Taking this back ASAP to get a different interface.

Professional sound for any musician

By Asher

Comments about M-Audio MobilePre USB Portable Audio Interface:

Just recently, I decided to get back into music. Being a Berklee College of Music Alum, I have used many different recording interfaces and recording programs as well. So when it came down to choosing a new interface I bought 3 different ones and ended up keeping the M-Audio MobilePre. With this small super portable unit, I am able to record virtually anywhere. It works perfectly with a number of different music production programs, allowing me to record, perform, mix and dj. Not only have I produced a top notch quality demo with this unit, but I literally earned back the price of this unit within a week of purchase from using it while DJing parties and recording vocals for the college students in my area. Overall M-Audio is a leading brand in the industry, and as i've always said, "Your recording quality can only be as good your gear." Wether beginner or professional you will not regret this recording interface! enjoy!

MobilePre USB was alright

By Scott

from Bettendorf, IA

Comments about M-Audio MobilePre USB Portable Audio Interface:

I recently traded in a fast track interface for the mobilepre usb due to the variety of inputs it allowed me. For the most part the product performs well for its price range however, once the interface is plugged in to my laptop and the outputs are hooked up I pick up a great AM signal that will not go away. The AM interference plays during the playback of the recordings and is very annoying. I have read other reviews stating the same problem. I would stick with the fast track options.

A minor problem but top of the line for its price range

By Tim

Comments about M-Audio MobilePre USB Portable Audio Interface:

This is a perfect little setup for the home/portable studio. For the price, it gives great sound quality, and latency elimination. One complaint: the preamps could be a BIT more transparent, as I've noticed a bit of floor noise in all of my recordings. Definitely not enough to make it any less worth the price though!!!

Great Product!

Comments about M-Audio MobilePre USB Portable Audio Interface:

Just picked up the MobilePre recently, and what can I say? It does everything as advertised - and executes it all perfectly! I instantly fell in love with the quality of the XLR inputs with my cheap mic, and this makes my guitar sound great on my MacBook Pro. Not much buzz and feedback. Speaking of MacBook's, this also solves the problem of the poor headphone ports. You can use this unit to output audio to your speakers via the 1/8th port. So all in all, this is a great unit. Time to start recording...

Everything I need and then some

By Tim Sheets

from Spring Hill, TN

Comments about M-Audio MobilePre USB Portable Audio Interface:

The only problems I have with this incredible device are due to my own lack of knowledge. I was using a Soundblaster Live 24-bit card. I have a high end PC and I still had terrible lag from the SB. Posts on various MIDI and music related blogs suggested the lag was not the PC, but the sound card. I bought this M-Audio USB sound card and have never looked back. Just today, I was playing back 6 tracks of midi and 2 audio tracks, while recording 2 different audio tracks, all at the same time, with NO audible lag. The thing works like a charm.

Awsome at home recording device

By Mike

from Durham, NC

Comments about M-Audio MobilePre USB Portable Audio Interface:

The M-Audio MobilePre USB Portable Audio Interface is an amazing little device. I have worked with sound boards and devices for 6 years and this by far is the coolest one I've seen to date. Unfortunately I do not personally own this item but a friend of mine got it as a graduation present. So i came over and me and another guitar player i know played some music and it recorded beautifully, and at optimal volume you could hear every note and cord played without any problem. I must say however that one of the programs included was slightly annoying as it had a pop up every 10 minutes or so about buying the full version, But as i recall it came with several programs to choose from. All-In-All an amazing at home recording device that i look forward to purchasing for myself.

perfect tool

Comments about M-Audio MobilePre USB Portable Audio Interface:

I purchased the mobile pre about 3 months ago and it works like a charm. I have a small home studio set up in an extra room in the back of my house and this thing was a great fit. I use to get a slight static like sound, but after adjusting the buffer a little bit it went away. I think it could use a midi in and out but I for what I do its just fine. This is perfect for starting out!!

The little pre-amp that could

By dmcnelis

from Chicago, IL

Comments about M-Audio MobilePre USB Portable Audio Interface:

I've been using the MobilePre USB by M-Audio for about a year and a half, primarily with GarageBand. In terms of value, the MobilePre is a great buy, with a low price and wide variety of features budget conscious buyers will not be disappointed. The unit features USB power, with a pre-amp for both of its Mic inputs and provides instrument inputs as well. Additionally there are levels to adjust the gain on both channels as well as a headphone level for monitoring. I've used this unit primarily with MXL 990/991 microphones, usually double mic'd when recording acoustic guitar, and have had almost no significant issues. I do find, however, than on occasion I'll detect a "snap" in my recordings, though whether this is a result of the unit, the mic, or something in my recording space remains to be determined.
