A Must-Have for mobile recording!

By BroadcasterRJM

from Montclair, NJ

Comments about M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 2-Channel Mobile Digital Recorder:

I have used my M-Audio MicroTrack recorder on the streets of Manhattan, gathering interview clips in "Man on the Street" format, as well as recording my band's rehearsals. In both settings I am very happy with my results! It's easy to use, records much higher quality sound than I'd expected, and being able to change record format gives me up to 3 hours of record time on a 1 gig memory card. I cannot say enough. The hand-held is light and convenient, but also un-intrusive to even the most "microphone-shy" interviewees. After I gather my sound bits I download clips in seconds and I'm editing. My band really enjoys plugging in the mixing board output and being ready to record. We don't fuss with cheaper, bulky recording and since the sound is in MP3 or wave format, it's ready for editing software immediately!

Comments about M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 2-Channel Mobile Digital Recorder:

As a musician/Tractor trailer driver I have to travel with my music on the road. this lil buddy comes in handy at all times. I can make my beats, record them to my microtrack 24/96 and put them onto CD, flashcard or my PC. this is a must have especially if you travel. I hook my keyboard into my MPC and my MPC into my 24/96 and Im ready to record, store it and record again and again and again...

This unit needed to go home

By Radio Simcha

from florida

Comments about M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 2-Channel Mobile Digital Recorder:

I was very impressed with the stated features and in reality sound was excellent. However that is the good side. The not so good side is this is not built for anything other then fragile use. I was never ever able to figure out the software. The battery life is unacceptalbe and needs to be recharged. I was very frustrated using it for my own demo work for broadcasting. I have no patience to keep watching the battery slip away. The volume metering i could not figure out. The company has the right idea in sound reproduction. The mechanics of the item and its casing was not acceptable.

Very handy for quick takes!

Comments about M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 2-Channel Mobile Digital Recorder:

I've had my M-audio MicroTrack 24/96 for about a year now and find it to be a great device for capturing live sessions in 2-track. I usually run it straight off the board at live venues to let acts hear how they sound, and bands usually always comment on how clean the recording is. Also works great for songwriters who need a simple way to capture an idea. I dropped a Kingston Elite Pro 50x 2G card in it and can record up to 24 hours solid using mp3 format @ 128 kbps with a 44.1 sample rate. Getting the files into the computer couldn't be easier. You plug it into a USB port and it looks just like a standard thumbdrive -- no tedious file conversions. If your PC has a flash card slot, you can bypass the USB connection altogether. Need more space? Get a bigger Flash card! The user interface on the MicoTrack is tolerable, although in my opinoin it could have been designed a little bit better. Still very easy to use, just not the way I would have laid it out. If you need quality live digital recording capability in a rugged, inexpensive push-button simple device, this is the one for you.

M-Audio Microtrack 24/96

By Camper

from Birmingham, AL

Comments about M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 2-Channel Mobile Digital Recorder:

This device is so user frienly, a newbie to recording would find it to be a cinch. Plug-in for condenser mics 1/8in w/phantom power included..no preamp needed. Stores over two hours of 16bit/44.1kHz WAV with 2Gig CompactFlash which inserts into the device itself! I recorded a 2 1/2hr show on a fully charged batt. and could have gone another 1/2 hour on one charge. USB allows for tracking and editing on your pc or mac w/ a wav editor software provided in the box! This is a must have, of course quality of recording depends on mics used and their placement...you can monitor recording levels with the meters on the device itself! A must have for recording on the go!

M-Audio MicroTrack is this singer's best friend!!!

By Andrea Martin

from Anaheim Hills, CA

Comments about M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 2-Channel Mobile Digital Recorder:

I have waited a long time to purchase a mobile recorder and nearly broke down and bought a different product while awaiting the arrival of M-Audio's MicroTrack. I am a singer and I love this recorder! Practical? Oh yeah. I have it on me at all times so that I can record an idea, a rehearsal, a coaching session.... Recording is a snap and playing back is just as easy. I am not a techie so I am sure that anyone can use this baby if I can! I love the fact that you can record using headphones and have a monitor feature; meaning that I can hear exactly what is being recorded. It is a true pleasure to work with! Charging battery operated devises can sometimes be a challenge when traveling internationally so I especially appreciate being able to charge my MicroTrack via USB port or by plugging it directly into a power outlet. The fact that it is 110-240v is great because when abroad there is no need for a transformer. I can just use an adapter and I am good to go! Other amazing features... the loop feature is great for my rehearsing needs, the mp3/wave option is great when you are not as concerned about quality as you are about recording time. I use the 1.0 GB CompactFlash cards; I keep two on me and switch them out according to my needs. So if this product is so amazing why not a 5.0 rating? Well only because I haven?t fully explored all the features of the MicroTrack?yet. I will say that I am so excited about this recorder that I tell everyone about it any chance I get. But more importantly, it is serving me very well in the areas that I most need it and that is what counts for me.

Rugged and compact

By Fuzzball

from Ida, MI

Comments about M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 2-Channel Mobile Digital Recorder:

If you need a portable recorder that is compact and rugged this may be the unit for you. The MicroTrack is a 2 channel digital recorder that records high quality WAV and MP3 files. It saves the files on CompactFlash cards or a microdrive. The unit is easy to use and it is PC or Mac compatible. One drawback I found was the battery life (it seems to be too short). Overall the unit does what it is supposed to, but for the price there may be better alternatives that offer the same quality and more features that you would want. It is a good unit but you may want more for your money.

Quick opinion of Microtrack 24//26

By Mac

from Undisclosed

Comments about M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 2-Channel Mobile Digital Recorder:

This is a good, little field recorder to be used only as it was meant to be used, but the huge issue I have with this product is that it sorely lacks power options. I bought it for it many feature, but I underestimated it's lack of power options. It has a built-in lithium ion battery that you can not change, and it will cost you over $70 to have M-Audio change it for you. On a number of occasions, it's lack of power options has caused me to be "unable to record" an event because the power was depleated, and when that happens, that's the end of that. This is always my fault, but then managing power on this unit is an issue of constant sorrow. Even thought it is a fine little recorder, I can not reccommend it because of it's serious lack of power options in the field. If you can trust yourself to never forget to ensure that your unit is pre-charged at all times, and that you always have time in the field to wait for a couple of hours for it to recharge -- then go for it.
