Overview

The M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface is an easy way to record your guitar with professional results. Just connect Fast Track to the USB port of your computer and you're ready to rock. It comes bundled with Ableton Live Lite intuitive audio recording and MIDI sequencing to help get you started.

Fast Track USB has a switchable (instrument/line) 1/4" input for instruments like guitar, bass, and keyboards, plus an XLR microphone input for recording vocals or other acoustic sounds.

The included GT Player Express software gives you killer effects and virtual stomp boxes so you don't need any other gear to sound great. GT Player Express also plays standard audio file formats like AAC, MP3, and WAV that let you learn and jam along with your favorite music at variable speeds.

Ableton Live Lite
Ableton Live Lite delivers much of the functionality of Ableton Live”the revolutionary, multi-award winning music production solution that allows you to spontaneously compose, record, remix, improvise, and edit your musical ideas in a seamless audio/MIDI environment. Live brings your acoustic, electronic, and virtual instruments”as well as your digital audio recordings and MIDI sequences”together in a single interface with unparalleled ease of use.

Ableton Live Lite 7 sports up to eight tracks, more effect instances, an enhanced audio engine, 64-bit mix summing, multiple time signatures, new and improved devices, side-chaining, refined MIDI timing and more.

Live's Session View acts as a musical sketch and launch pad, encouraging you to try out new ideas and improvise freely. Each cell in the Session View grid can hold a loop, recording, MIDI file, complete song or any other musical element. These ideas can be recorded on the fly or dragged in from the Browser, combined and played in any order you wish.

The Arrangement View offers a timeline-based approach for traditional recording, MIDI sequencing, arranging, editing, and other musical production tasks. And when you improvise in the Session View, all of your actions can be recorded into the Arrangement View, where they can be edited and perfected whenever you like.

I bought this M-Audio Box, because I had a strong desire for recording but didn't have very much cash to spend. When I hooked it up, with my newly purchased condenser microphone, I was highly impressed by the sound quality this box delivered. I got warm and crisp sounds that were just right for my vocals and guitar. I couldn't ask for more from a recording box at this price. A must have for the intermediate musician. You really need to know what you're getting and decide what you're after. I got it in my beginner stages of recording, and it worked for what I wanted. Now that I've learned that I can get sooo much better quality, I wish I had invested in something more middle road. Even just anything powered and with some sort of pre-amplification. The good side is that since it isn't powered you can take it anywhere easily. But get something better for any serious recordings. P.S. - it really likes to confuse your computer so beware. It has to act as your sound card whenever its plugged in, and by the time you've plugged your speakers up to it(rigged it) and adjusted your output levels, your itunes stops working or your recording software shuts down because it doesn't know which sound card is boss. So use it sparingly.

Appears to be low priced, Not worth the money

    By VAFilmmaker87

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

I came across this audio interface at Best Buy, thinking that it had a good price at a good quality. I realized that I was wrong when I bought it and took it home. I plugged it in to the USB port on my computer, plugged in my headphones to check the feedback levels, they were absolutely terrible, and I had not even plugged in my mic yet! Then i plugged in the mic and still had feedback. This peace of junk is definitely going back to the store tomorrow. It may appear to be a bargain, but don't waste your money that plastic peace of junk.

    not too shabby

    By AcousticGuy

    from Kville, Tx

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

we used this to record a live acoustic show one night. We hooked it directly to the board and then to the laptop. Honestly, it was worth the 100 bucks. The recording is as good as you would get going to a studio and paying 400 bucks for studio time. It was 100 bucks and now you can record or use it for demos (as we do) to send to bars for gigs. Definatly worth the investment...

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

this product is not worth the money at all. it is horrible to use. just getting this thing to work correctly is a challeng on its own. it is very frustrating and poorly designed. i would not recomend this to anyone. the phone support is terrible because they dont know what they are talking about and they sound more lost then the customer. another down side is you cant return interfaces. so if you dont like it, your stuck with it anyways. i will never use another m-audio product again. i have used 3 other products and all fail to get even the smallest job done.

    M-Audio Fast Track

    By SpiritOfRadio7k7

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

I got this for my birthday a year ago so I could start recording my band's and my own music. At first I thought it was broken, beacuse it was not interacting well with the free software it came with. However, my friend gave me Cubase, and that solved the problem. It works very well, and I was impressed with the quality. On warning though, do not use microphones with 1/4 inputs. They will come through very weakly and quietly. If you have a mixer though, that will solve the problem. Thats how I mic up my saxophone, and its great.

    For Me? A Rip-Off

    By Ty-Sabian

    from Chambersburg, PA

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

I bought the M-Audio USB Recording device when looking around for different recording hardwares/softwares. I came across this at a nearby Target store, and bought it as it looked like it was easy to use and was fairly good quality. Well, I took it home, and had some problems setting it up. Everything was fine until I got up to the screen that said "Windows has not yet Passed Logo Testing". Well, I tried numerous times but the small screen froze up, and whenever I clicked on "Continue Anyway" it would go to "Not Responding". I tried MANY times but failed every time. Needless to say, I will try to take this back and get a refund if possible, as there are better things to spend $80 on than a non-working piece-of-junk hardware. Maybe it's just my computer, but I recommend not getting this, just in case. By the way, I have a Windows XP.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

For a small $100 I got the use that I'm looking for. Granted I'm not a pro musician, but if I were would I be buying a $100 interface? Probably not. This is the perfect tool for folks like me who like to shed for practice, light recording, and dreams of playing the big gig one day. By the way. Use a Macintosh. Seriously.

    Good for Mac

    By Songwriter

    from Rochester NY

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

I use this thing for recording demos for specific venues to get gigs. I'm a starving musician so I needed something inexpensive. I use garage band and a mixer with phantom power to go into this little box. I don't use the software that came with it. If you have a mac it is a true plug and play interface. I do my recording and mix downs in garage band, then I export to ITunes and import the recording into sound studio that came with my mac to adjust the compression levels. After that I use ITunes to convert it into a mp3. If you have a mixer with phantom power and need to record seperate tracks it is a good little interface. You need to experiment with it quite a bit though.

issues at first, now it works great!

    By Tyler

    from Madison, WI

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

I've had this for a couple of months, and was unstisfied with crackling, popping audio that would come and go. i was ready to return it, but then i realized it was my laptop that was the problem. i have a dell laptop with windows xp. what solved the problem was disabling the built-in wireless. there are a bunch of other things you can do to help the performance, but now i have no problems whatsoever. i use guitar rig 3, reason 4, and acid pro 6, and it's just awesome. the latency is very low and unnoticable. unfortunately i think most of the negative reviews of this product are because of improper installation or setup. the setup can be frustrating, but as i've found, it's the computer, not the fast track.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

After 5 minutes of software loading, hook-up and tweaking, I was amazed at the features and quality. For around the house casual recording or simply working out some kinks, this is a great little box for the money. I use AMR's PowerAmp utility to convert .mp3 to .wav for playback through GT Player. It will fully integrate with ACID... kewl. You cannot find a better buy at $100 PERIOD. Highly recommend this product for those who are not professionals with higher excpectations for thier $100 investment.

    M-Audio Fast Track USB

    By FAAR

    from Austin, TX

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

I bought the Fast Track USB because it is compatible with M-Powered Pro Tools. Technically I already have a pretty good audio interface (the M-Audio ProFire 2626), but I wanted something small to launch M-Powered Pro Tools at home, for creating, editing and/ or mixing sessions, etc. I have no intention of using this thing to track, although I'm sure it will come in handy when I need to quickly & easily record ideas. After downloading the latest driver from the M-Audio website and installing it on my MacBook Pro, I plugged in the Fast Track USB and had no problems. I was able to launch M-Powered Pro Tools and edit a session (which is what I bought the thing for). I haven't used it to record anything yet, so I can't comment on the sound quality. I own/have owned a number of M-Audio products (from midi a controller to various audio interfaces to studio monitors) and have never had any problems. Every item does exactly what it's supposed to do and in my experience "user error" is the #1 reason for problems.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

I've had this amazing recording software and USB connector for only a week or so, but it's so great! All you have to do is plug in your guitar, bass, mic, (or whatever other instrument you could plug into it) and open the software. The simplicity of the software itself is great to. For non-Mac users, this software is quite useful. I do not have any experience with a Mac or Garage Band, but from what I have heard, the two softwares are quite similar. Using this software, I have already found myself playing more and enjoying it a lot too!

    Should have saved my money

    By jucati

    from Dallas, TX

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

I bought this unit to record guitar, mainly with Sony Acid software. When I got it home & installed the software & plugged it in, it didn't work very well. The sound does not come through the computer speakers, it only comes through the headphone jack in the Fast Track unit, which is inconvenient. My level started to waiver after about 15 minutes of playing and eventually tapered off into a distorted low level mess, so I took it back to the store and exchanged it, thinking I got a bad unit. Took the new one home and hooked it up and got all the same issues. I'm not impressed with this one at all, to the point of my avoiding all M-Audio products in the future.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

Well, my band and I need to record every once in awhile, and I got this as a Christmas present two years ago. At first I rarely used it, but as the band became more serious, we needed to use it more.It works well for the price, especially if you plug your guitar straight through the box, don't bother micking it, there is a lot of feedback. The only real problem i found was the fact that you can't listen to the guitar and the click track through the headset unless you are recording with the mic. Other then that, the sound quality is great. I would recommend using amplitude for effects, the stock ones suck. a lot. other than that its a decent buy.

    Good for what we needed...

    By CSR

    from Detroit, MI

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

I have a computer in a separate office that we normally do not record on, however we sometimes use it for audio editing. I bought a pair of decent powered monitors but needed a decent-sounding outpu to connect them to with an accessible volume control. This device was perfect for that... it is small, sits on the desktop, and allows for easy control of the audio going to the monitors. Sounds fine too. I'm not likely to ever use it for recording--since it only has one mono line and one mic in; not much use, however for what we needed it for it is an excellent little tool. Check the specs before you buy; some of the negative reviews on here seem to be from people who just plain bought the wrong item.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track USB Computer Recording Interface:

I needed a simple recording device to record demos for the band i am in and to make practice cuts for my guitar students to use.It took us a while to download since it was not compatible with my computor and when we finnally got it up it was very difficult to figure out, then it got a hum in it like some kind of grounding problum. I tried to return it guitar center and they said couldnt do it. Right now I'm waiting to get a hold of a tech support line, but I get home at 4:30 and they close at 5:00. I guess I'm stuck!!!!
