Overview

One of the most popular audio interfaces ever, the M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface is an affordable, reliable piece of equipment loaded with professional features for optimal mobile recording flexibility. You get 2 front-panel mic/line inputs complete with phantom power for condenser microphones, inserts for outboard effects, balanced and unbalanced analog outputs, S/PDIF digital I/O, MIDI I/O, and more.

The M-Audio Fast Track Pro also offers near-zero latency direct hardware monitoring and low-latency ASIO software monitoring, plus an A/B source switch and dual output pairs for DJ-style cueing. Compatible with most popular PC and Mac music software, the Fast Track interface's USB connection and bus power along with class compliancy for Mac OS X* make it a breeze to set up.

Professional Recording—Anywhere, Anytime
With the M-Audio Fast Track Pro, you'll get professional results whenever and wherever you want to record. A single USB connection gives you access to all the I/O you need for microphones and instruments like guitars, as well as MIDI- and S/PDIF-equipped digital audio gear. The microphone inputs are even phantom powered to accommodate studio-quality condenser microphones. M-Audio's acclaimed driver software gives you total routing control over the 4 x 4 I/O—including setting up an effects loop with external devices.

Monitoring Flexibility
The M-Audio Fast Track Pro audio interface also has a powerful headphone amplifier with volume control. Hardware direct monitoring eliminates the latency or delay inherent in even the best internal circuitry while listening to your input and existing tracks. You can also listen to your input complete with effects while recording by using the low-latency ASIO monitoring. Connect to a DJ mixer with the 2 pairs of analog outputs and use the front-panel A/B source switch to audition cues.

Ableton Live Lite
M-Audio also includes multi-award-winning Ableton Live 5 software. The Live 5's revolutionary loop-based paradigm dramatically simplifies audio production, so you can drag and drop audio clips in real time, record linear tracks, add effects, perform live remixes, and much more.

I've been using the Fast Track Pro for a little over 6 months now and I've gotta say that it is a definite keeper! It was very easy to install, easy to understand and well... easy! I have recorded many artists who do audiobooks, sing, voice-overs, etc. although the latency is 20 millisecs, it has no problem in my book, you won't even notice if your' ears aren't tuned in completely (artists). I've heard a lot of people compare this to the Tascam, but tascam doesn't even come close to being as precise as this one! I'll be honest, I haven't worked with many interface items, but working with this one (if it's your 1st time) you definitely can't go wrong with it. I plan to upgrade to the M-audio Fast Track Ultra in order to have more available recording inputs at a time, but this is great for now. I normally give away my interface machines when I get a new one, but I don't think I'll get rid of this one for another 4 years. And if I do? I'll sell it, because it's worth it. -New users -experienced users -users who want simple, yet effective means to record.

It̴s a nice little portable thing, great for preproduction, but it doesn̴t qualify as pro equipment at all, the preamps and outputs are quite dull and don̴t have that much gain, but it does have a really ugly sort of electronic noise in the outputs, if you want to record virtual instruments through the outputs of this guy as I did, it̴s not the best buy.

BROKEN out of the box.

By Tracey Talevich

from Seattle, WA

A few months ago, I purchased this interface in store, along with a pair of KRK Rokit 6's. As soon as I had everything plugged in and set up, I attempted to play a song on iTunes through the interface, and the monitors played a scratchy, loud, buzzing sound. I opened Ableton and played a 100hz sine wave, which also caused buzzing. Then I played a 1000hz sine wave, which did not cause any buzzing at all. The interface would cause feedback in the low-end of the spectrum. I unplugged the interface, and ran the monitors into my Macbook Pro's headphone jack - which caused NO problems in the low end (no buzzing.) I took the interface back, and exchanged it for a Scarlet 2i2, which works FANTASTICALLY. I give the interface 1 star, and give the Guitarcenter employees 5 stars for their help.

Great for live MIDI use too!

By Joe Hazen

from Seabrook, TX

I run a dual-keyboard setup live, and while one (an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88) is run via USB direct to my laptop, the other is older and does not have that kind of built-in interface. When my cheapo E-Mu XMidi cable went out on me, I found this interface. It takes over the sound card on my computer, takes and converts the MIDI from my older keyboard for use with Reason 6, and allows me to record my guitars direct at home too! It interfaces with Reason perfectly, and except for some minor tweaks in my laptop's control panel, was basically a plug and play affair. Can't say enough good about it! Never had any issues and it's built solidly. It cranks for live use, and is powered via USB. A+ M-Audio!

Great Buy

By Chris Plecker

from VA

I bought this about a year ago and I still use it. It gave an exceptional difference in FL Studio when I hooked it up. I use it for pretty much everything now. Only thing I would say bad about this is the headphone jack. When you pull your headphones out, the 1/4 connector comes out too when it used to stay in. It can't be the connector because I use several. If you're into buying an M-Audio Interface, I would suggest the new C series or the Profire610 though.

Don't buy this!

By Dale White

from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

I went into the store and asked for something I could use to record music at home, process it on laptop, and burn to a cd. I was sold the fast track pro. First had alot of trouble getting discs to load into a new lapton purchased just days before. There's no instruction manual to help with how to make it work. The help menu does not work at all. Now find out I can't save anything to the laptop nor process music or burn to a cd. That's something else you have to buy. I spent good money for absolutely nothing that can do what I need to do. I was told when I bought it that I could do everything I asked for. NOT! Don't waste your money unless you got some extra to buy whatever else you have to buy to get this to work. Guitar Center has always done me right in the past but this time they got to me.

Works but specs lie

By Nick

from Westland Michigan

Beware, this device cannot input and output at 96hz at the same time. Since it is only USB 1.1, there is not enough bandwidth to do both. So either you record at 96hz without hearing what your playing, or your stuck recording at 48hz. I wish i knew this before I bought this but it is not mentioned anywhere in the specs that it is only usb 1.1. That huge issue aside, the interface works nicely for what its supposed to do. It is not very hard to set up and is easy to use.

Waste of time

By Ross Estee

from houston, tx

Brought it home and the device said that it cannot work on my Operating System (Windows 7). The Drivers that i downloaded from the website did not work. It is possible to get a 5 star rating, but be aware that you could have the same problem.

WARNING!

By JacobE

from Portland, Oregon

This product DOES NOT work with OS X 10.6.6 It tells you that the minimum system requirements are OS X 10.4 but it neglects to say that if you have a later version (and 10.4 is, like, 5 years old) that it wont work.

M-Audio Fast Track Pro

By Kim

from Ames, IA

I am sure this product will be great but the software which I wanted to load to use it with (pro tools) is version 7 and this version I can't even use it on my computer because it's not compatible for vista 64 bit - had to go to websites and update very old software disks that it came with - please update product packaging with updated softerware.

great buy

By Josh

from Philadelphia, PA

For those that do most their recording at home and are on a tight budget, this is perfect. I've just finished recording a solo cd (multi-tracked) with this device, coupled with protools mpowered 7, and have had no problems. The output to the monitors is honestly a bit low, but it's not a problem, as I just crank my monitors up.
