I've been using the Fast Track Pro for a little over 6 months now and I've gotta say that it is a definite keeper! It was very easy to install, easy to understand and well... easy! I have recorded many artists who do audiobooks, sing, voice-overs, etc. although the latency is 20 millisecs, it has no problem in my book, you won't even notice if your' ears aren't tuned in completely (artists). I've heard a lot of people compare this to the Tascam, but tascam doesn't even come close to being as precise as this one! I'll be honest, I haven't worked with many interface items, but working with this one (if it's your 1st time) you definitely can't go wrong with it. I plan to upgrade to the M-audio Fast Track Ultra in order to have more available recording inputs at a time, but this is great for now. I normally give away my interface machines when I get a new one, but I don't think I'll get rid of this one for another 4 years. And if I do? I'll sell it, because it's worth it. -New users -experienced users -users who want simple, yet effective means to record.

It̴s a nice little portable thing, great for preproduction, but it doesn̴t qualify as pro equipment at all, the preamps and outputs are quite dull and don̴t have that much gain, but it does have a really ugly sort of electronic noise in the outputs, if you want to record virtual instruments through the outputs of this guy as I did, it̴s not the best buy.

Fast track to nowhere!

By recordingISfun

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

OKay this thing is awesome for recording one track at a time. If that's all you'll use it for...go for it, it's the best one out there. But keep in mind that you'll never be able to record drums or more than one instrument at once. It's great for noobs who aren't sure if they are that into recording yet but want something to try on. I own it and use it basically as a practice tool for playing guitar. I mic an amp and it sounds pretty good for 200 bucks but now I know I llike recording and I need something that can record my whole band at once. I plan on selling my fast track pro as soon as I buy my FirePod from Presonus...if you're somewhat serious about recording, buy something like the presonus firePod which can record 8 tracks at once. If not, by all means, the fast tradck pro is the interface for you. Great job M Audio, nice machine!!!!

Very portable and affordable way to record

By ru2free

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

The M-Audio Fast Track Pro is a great USB interface for on the go fast tracking. Since it has phantom power built in and the whole thing is powered by USB, it truly is a great interface for laptop. I actually have a Studio-in-a-box at home but when I want to expand my tracking options or want to record in 24 bit on the go, this interface fills in nicely and without costing an arm and a leg. Ideal for the solo artist, it has two balanced inputs for mics and instruments. The preamps are good and clean for such a portable box. I wished it had XLR outputs, though. On the bright side, it does have s/pidf i/o as well as a number of outputs. After loading the drivers, my laptop had no trouble finding it and all my recording software recognized it. If you are considering this unit for the software, don't do it. The software are "teaser" editions, very limited. This small unit is solid in build, very portable and very affordable way to start digital recording or to use as your studio away from home. Nice job, M-Audio!

Great Product

By TheMarvelousVernon

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

I bought this interface this week as an upgrade for Garageband. Prior to that I was using the line in jack on the Mac. It has great features and offers more flexiblity as I am slowly building a home studio. What sold it to me I think is the fact that it is compatible with so many other types of software, in particular, Pro Tools M-Powered. The only thing I could complain about would be that the connection jacks in the front seem a little flimsy and aren't set firmly within the housing. Other than that, great product!

Great low-budget recording Interface

By rp

from Miami, FL

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

I had previously owned the M-Audio Firewire Solo, which was an AMAZING interface, the quality was excellent though it was very limited in functionality. It had taken some falls and no longer worked, so I needed something affordable to keep recording. I was extremely surprised at the features this interface has for the price -- MIDI ports, 2 dual XLR/1/4 inputs (so convenient), and great in/out ports all around. The quality gets the job done for a simple home studio. I have to admit though that it has LOTS of issues when using it as your soundcard and interface at the same time. Like getting errors when you open your DAW because you had a media player open at the same time (or even having firefox open while opening your DAW gives you latency errors).. stuff like that. But at this price they're issues I can deal with. I have to disagree about this not being for serious musicians. It's a very functional recording device, maybe not of the highest quality, but if you're working with 1-2 audio tracks at a time it will get the job done. My main complaint is quality and driver issues, but once you get past that and just make some music, you will see how useful it is. I recommend this to anyone who records with a laptop on the go. Hook up some good instruments and make some music. Cheap all-in-one solution.

Great for Windows 7!!!

By Dan N

from New York, NY

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

After being told by the Tascam rep that the Tascam US-144mkII works fine with Windows 7, I purchased it and after a very difficult installation process, it still didn't work. Because the truth is, it does not work with Windows 7 operating systems. The drivers have not been developed yet, which seems to be an issue with 90% of manufactorers. Not with M-Audio. I exchanged the Tascam unit with the M-Audio Fast Track Pro,downloaded the Windows 7/64 bit driver directly from their website and that was it! It was so quick and easy I didn't think there was any way possible that it was done already, but it was and it works great. I should have just got it in the first place! BTW: Guitar Center was great handling the exchange with no hassles.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

I Recently bought this not knowing anything about it, i just needed an interface so i picked a reasonably cheap one, little did i know that this interface was exactly what i needed! Im running this M-Auido Fast Track Pro through a mac and im just using garage band and it works great. It also came with Abelton Live but that program is just too complicated and plus im used to garage band. But overall a very nice piece of equipment.

great buy

By Josh

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

For those that do most their recording at home and are on a tight budget, this is perfect. I've just finished recording a solo cd (multi-tracked) with this device, coupled with protools mpowered 7, and have had no problems. The output to the monitors is honestly a bit low, but it's not a problem, as I just crank my monitors up.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

This product DOES NOT work with OS X 10.6.6 It tells you that the minimum system requirements are OS X 10.4 but it neglects to say that if you have a later version (and 10.4 is, like, 5 years old) that it wont work.

Great Product, and easy setup

By Windz One'

from San Diego, Ca

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

I bought this for the sole purpose of recording mixes and mixtapes for promoting myself and my crew. This was extremely easy to set-up. Drivers were available from the website (maudio.com), and set up was real easy. I also use audacity, so using this was simply hitting preferences. Deep sounding, as well as the highs. I would recommend going through a seperate mixer board (Behringher), to adjust for the clipping. If you have a Mac, I would recommend a FireWire Pro, but for PC, the sound, and the price, do not pass this up!

Maybe USB Technology Not Perfected Yet

By Paul

from Boston, MA

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

For reference sake I run a P4 2.8G w/ 2G of ram. I recently bought a new PC, and to my dismay it had low-profile PCI slot cards, so an internal sound card would not fit. My solution was to go the USB route. Mainly, I like to use an old hard disk recorder by Roland to track instruments, especially b/c it's mobile and I can take to my band room. Then I usually dump a two track mix into Adobe Audition software using the S/PDIF out from the hard disk recorder to accomplish this and burn to MP3. My old internal sound card from EMU in old PC was great for this. Unfortunately I still cannot receive signal from the S/PDIF connection in Audition software using the M-audio box, even though it all seems to recognize the S/PDIF in/out ports. That's why I gave this a 3, b/c S/PDIF is important to me but currently non-functioning. Yes I get signal using the mic/line analog in's, and I do have to say the Nuetrik dual XLR/TRS inputs are cool. The phantom power/pre-amp isn't the best sounding, but should suffice for demo quality. I felt it made my voice a tad boxy so I still prefer my Presonus tube pre when using a condensor mic for vocals. It's a pretty cool little box with some nice features, but if I had to recommend I would say go with an internal sound card. One question I had was "will this M-audio box become my sound card?" meaning for listening to Itunes and or youtube videos and such? Yes, yes it does. Does it enhance it in any way? I'm not sure but I do not believe so. So again, that was something I loved about an internal sound card as well, was that all sound is processed through it. Also, the M-Audio box seems to have some sampling rate deficiencies/oddities that I didn't experience with my EMU card which may be the reason for no S/PDIF signal. Still looking into that. So if all I was really doing is tracking straight to software with just a track or two at a time, yeah this would be great, or just to jam along with real songs through my PC. However as an audio hub for my PC as both a consumer and recording musician, I would recommend an internal card for sure. This sort of really is a glorified patch bay if you will just to get external sound to your PC, and as far as that goes it's great. I'm sure it's prob also great if you only have a laptop. However if you demand more you may want to shop around and think internal. Good luck!

good sounds, some dropouts

By Bradlee

from Lexington, KY

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

So far, so good. I'm getting some good sounds. And, it's actually 'louder' than my Firebox though nowhere near as sturdy or solid. For an alternative to my Firebox, it's great. For tracking acoustic guitar parts and vocals, it's great. I wouldn't think of using it beyond any of that, though. I am having some dropouts, but I think it's just a matter of getting all of the appropriate settings adjusted.

Works but specs lie

By Nick

from Westland Michigan

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

Beware, this device cannot input and output at 96hz at the same time. Since it is only USB 1.1, there is not enough bandwidth to do both. So either you record at 96hz without hearing what your playing, or your stuck recording at 48hz. I wish i knew this before I bought this but it is not mentioned anywhere in the specs that it is only usb 1.1. That huge issue aside, the interface works nicely for what its supposed to do. It is not very hard to set up and is easy to use.

Great Buy

By Chris Plecker

from VA

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

I bought this about a year ago and I still use it. It gave an exceptional difference in FL Studio when I hooked it up. I use it for pretty much everything now. Only thing I would say bad about this is the headphone jack. When you pull your headphones out, the 1/4 connector comes out too when it used to stay in. It can't be the connector because I use several. If you're into buying an M-Audio Interface, I would suggest the new C series or the Profire610 though.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

I am sure this product will be great but the software which I wanted to load to use it with (pro tools) is version 7 and this version I can't even use it on my computer because it's not compatible for vista 64 bit - had to go to websites and update very old software disks that it came with - please update product packaging with updated softerware.

Don't buy this!

By Dale White

from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface:

I went into the store and asked for something I could use to record music at home, process it on laptop, and burn to a cd. I was sold the fast track pro. First had alot of trouble getting discs to load into a new lapton purchased just days before. There's no instruction manual to help with how to make it work. The help menu does not work at all. Now find out I can't save anything to the laptop nor process music or burn to a cd. That's something else you have to buy. I spent good money for absolutely nothing that can do what I need to do. I was told when I bought it that I could do everything I asked for. NOT! Don't waste your money unless you got some extra to buy whatever else you have to buy to get this to work. Guitar Center has always done me right in the past but this time they got to me.
