Overview

M-Audio studio speakers are music industry bestsellers-and now AV 40 powered montors bring this professional legacy to your home. Unlike plastic multimedia speakers, AV 40s use technology thats trusted by top musicians, engineers, and composers: premium woofer and tweeter components for rich lows and crystal highs; wave guides for clarity and detail; and wooden cabinets for tight, punchy sound. Theyre perfect for creating all kinds of mediaand also let you get the most out of your CDs, MP3s, DVDs, and games.

Professional components-professional results
M-Audio builds the AV 40s with the same quality materials and precision electronics as acclaimed M-Audio professional studio speakers. The audiophile-grade Class A/B amplifier architecture, ferrofluid-cooled silk cone tweeters, polypropylene-coated woofers, and dense wooden enclosures add up to big, defined sound that defies the speakers' small size.

Clear, cohesive sound
The AV 40 speakers use proprietary OptImage wave guide technology-originally developed for the professional M-Audio speaker line-to deliver superior clarity and detail. Each speaker also features a precision-engineered crossover, which ensures that the sound emanating from the low-frequency driver will blend seamlessly with the sound from the high-frequency driver-so those deep lows transition smoothly into crystal-clear highs.

Extended low end
If you crave bass, AV 40s have you covered. With wooden cabinets and bass reflex design, the AV 40s kick out serious low frequencies-perfect for producing hip-hop and electronic music, or enjoying your favorite CDs, MP3s, DVDs, and games.

Magnetically shielded for desktop use
Many speakers emit stray magnetic flux that can wreak havoc with your computer's video monitor or a nearby TV. The AV 40s are magnetically shielded, so they can coexist with other equipment without interference.

I just purchase these speackers about 3 weeks ago. They sound great. I have them hooked up to my Mackie Board and thru my Mackie board to the computer. They make my Itunes sing. I have read other reviews on other site talking about how they do run hot, shorting out the amp and some distortion after a few months of use. I believe if you are only using these monitors to playback music for your at home studio or listen to I tunes they will work prefect. I wouldn't recomend leaving them on 24/7 or use them for replacement speakers for your computer.

Brought these monitors to use as monitors on booth out of my DJ rig. I was disappointed with their performance to say the least. The spl has to be inflated and the bass becomes distorted when you turn them up. Should have spent more and just bypassed these. When working with Studio One they are ok but I don't trust them to reproduce the track accurately enough to master a track. If you are just looking for high priced computer speakers then these are a good bet. If you are starting a studio or need them for pratice at home spinning tunes then steer clear of these because you will be wasting your money. currently looking at some Alesis Elevate 5 for about the same amount.

Comments about M-Audio AV 40 Studio Monitor Pair:

I bought these for my Zoom R8 and I'm amazed how good they are.I was using headphone to record and mix my music.I always turned the bass way down cuz they would crack in the headphones. When I got these I was noticed I could turn the bass up and my recording are 10 times better. Not only that.I don't get headaches like I did from using the headphones.Absolutely love these monitors.

Bang for your budget buck

Comments about M-Audio AV 40 Studio Monitor Pair:

I have never owned more detailed monitors than these. I have only been using studio equipment for a short year and I have been using an M Track as my soundcard for recording and playback in the Sonar 8 platform. Beyond that, I am a newby, but even when I play songs from I tunes or windows media player, there is a definitive difference in audio clarity from the top all the way to the bottom end. Great monitors for an enthusiast on a budget. M Audio has fantastic quality products at a fair price.

Save money and buy these!

By Ryan McQuiston

Comments about M-Audio AV 40 Studio Monitor Pair:

I've been monitoring through these speakers for over 3 years. I've gotten plenty of use out of them. I've produced a few bands with them, and the sound has been very accurate. There's no such thing as perfect response, but if you're looking for "flat" save your money and get these over anything middle of the road ($100-500).

Fantastic Buy

By Andy Dobies

Comments about M-Audio AV 40 Studio Monitor Pair:

These monitors are great, I've been blasting them for about 4 months now (not necessarily straight), and they still sound crisp as ever. They have a very flat response, very good for writing music, I use them to write DnB and dubstep myself. The bass is surprisingly good on these monitor, though if you want rumbling I'd suggest getting a pair with a separate subwoofer. Only complaints are 1) they do get hot after prolonged use (6+ hrs), and 2) they hiss slightly if you plug headphones into them, most active speakers have the same problems though. I would definitely suggest these monitors if you want good quality for not too much money.

Very pleasantly surprised.

By Gil Moffet

from Chelsea MI

Comments about M-Audio AV 40 Studio Monitor Pair:

I own a pair of DX4's. I was aware of the design upgrades M-Audio was making to this design for several years. I decided to take a chance and buy a pair of AV40's. I'm still in a little disoriented. The AV40's have more depth and a lot more bass response than the DX4's, which is surprising because there are very few apparent design differences between the two sets of speakers. The AV40's are also loud; I kept having to ramp back the gain as I was testing them. I was using a small consumer-grade sub to supplement my DX4's. I didn't need it with the AV40's. I expected that MAYBE the AV40's would be DX4's with a few of the rough edges filed off. Wow, was I wrong. The AV40's represent a significant improvement over the DX4's, which I thought were pretty impressive, especially when I first bought them. I'd say the AV40's are pretty much a steal.

Alright

By Michael Wong

from Boston MA

Comments about M-Audio AV 40 Studio Monitor Pair:

These speakers are high quality, but there's too much resonance. I also don't like how the active speaker must be on the left, and the passive speaker must be on the right. Some people may have an outlet closer to the right, so the speakers would have to be switched, resulting in an incorrect stereo sound.

Great buy

By Manny Beetz

Comments about M-Audio AV 40 Studio Monitor Pair:

The sound is great coming from these speakers. I chose these over more expensive monitors not just because of the price but because of the sound. I like a flat EQ in the speakers. So I can EQ the vocals and guitar tracks through my DAW. It is also great for listening through them in ITunes. You will hear things in a song never thought possible.
