Hey there! I wrote an earlier review and since then I've migrated to a new Windows 7 PC and I thought I'd help put your mind at ease. Yes, the ProFire 610 is Windows 7 friendly, which many IO's are NOT. The only trick is that you need to go to "Device Manager", click on your Texas Instruments FireWire Card, and revert the driver back to the "Legacy" one. And make sure that you are using the latest M-Audio Driver. I've had ZERO Problems and I still love the 610!
This is the third Brand I have tried in less than a month of looking for an audio interface that is Snow Leopard compliant. I am using a 2008 2.8 quad core Apple Mac Pro with Logic Pro 9. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and it works flawlessly. No crashes like the other brands that advertise "Snow Leopard Compliant" Having 2 separate headphone outs with separate volume control has proven very useful and convenient. Assignable outs are convenient as well if you have a multi monitor setup. It makes your workflow that much smoother. The sound is extremely clear and better than any of the other audio interfaces i have tried in this price range and below. Dont waste your time finding an audio interface that works with Snow Leopard. This is the one. Easy and simple to use and it just works.
I purchased this unit because of the i/o compared to the Apogee Duet. I needed a good A/D converter for my Mackie ONYX mixer w/o a fire wire card. I was very pleased with the conversion to Logic Pro. What I didn't expect was to hear how much better the Octane Preamps sound when compared to the Mackie ONYX preamps.. Heck the sound coming out of the Profire was a lot better than the Mackie ONYX mixer period! Bang for buck this is hands down the best product out there. Everyone I've asked regarding sound quality, compared to other products, even Apogee, have all agreed that you will be hard pressed to tell a sonic difference between the profire and other more expensive units, even the DUET/Ensemble. You cannot beat that price with this kind of quality. The unit is built sturdy, the knobs are a huge improvement compared to older Firewire 410. I may even stop using the ONYX mixer all together because this unit just sounds so good. Dual headphone outs are awesome with plenty of gain. Just wish they would sell mounting brackets, but then again they would want you to purchase it's rack mountable older brother. Awesome quality affordable price.
