Make your MIDI setup ultra-mobile!

The MidAir Receiver MIDI Interface is in an integral component to the M-Audio MidAir Wireless System. Bring your MIDI gear into the wireless age with the MidAir system. Comprised of a portable transmitter and receiver, the MidAir allows you to wirelessly transmit data from any device that outputs MIDI data—keyboards, drum machines, electronic drums and more. Just plug the battery-powered transmitter into the MIDI Out port on your controller of choice and connect the receiver to the MIDI In port on the device you'd like to control, and you're set. As a 2.4 GHz wireless device, the MidAir enables you to interface MIDI hardware at distances up to 30 feet with the same feel and response as a wired unit. The MidAir receiver includes a USB port and functions as a class-compliant 1 x 1 MIDI interface, so you can also wirelessly control soft synths from your favorite MIDI controller.Control It All Designed for both studio and stage applications, the MidAir system makes it possible to control everything from keyboards and sound modules to multi-effects units and stage lighting rigs wirelessly. The system works with any with any devices that send and receive MIDI data. Onstage, you can turn your favorite keyboard or MIDI instrument into a wireless controller and control an entire rack of MIDI gear without cables. In the studio, the MidAir system is the perfect way to eliminate excess clutter and long cable runs.Front of House and Beyond Have you ever wondered what your favorite keyboard patch sounds like in the audience? With the MidAir system, it's no problem to just pick up your MIDI controller with attached MidAir transmitter and check out your sounds from the floor. You can also control onstage effects from the FOH mix position or vice versa.Multiple Frequency Channels Much like wireless phones, MidAir automatically switches channels to insure a clear and unique signal. This means that you can use multiple MidAir systems in the same stage or studio environment.Sync Your Stage Tempo-based effects are among the most exciting things you can add to your guitar, bass or keyboard—and more and more guitar and bass effects are offering this functionality. But trying to sync multiple units has traditionally required running MIDI cables from a master keyboard or clock source to each player's effects unit—including trying to find cables long enough. With the MidAir, you can achieve the same functionality without those extra cables. Imagine the creative possibilities of being able to control the timing of your band's effects units from a single keyboard, MIDI instrument or computer. (Multiple MidAir systems and appropriate multi-port interface or splitter are required.)

  • Not very good

As reviewed by David White on 7/20/2009

I bought this thing to hook up to my midi wind controller so I wouldn't be tethered to my midi gear, but it has two very big problems. 1. This thing eats batteries faster than any wireless device I've ever seen. I have a wireless audio transmitter for the EWI as well and I can get a good 10 hours from a full battery. The MidiAir only gets about 3 hours. May not seem like much but it gets expensive after a while. 2. The range is very poor. I've tried using it in many different settings all with the same result. Even with no obstructions between the transmitter and reciever you can't walk more than 5 feet away from it before you start to notice dropped notes. I was playing four feet away from the transmitter and someone stood in the middle and I got dropped notes. I should add a third point. After less than a year it stopped working altogether. Avoid this thing.

  • Nice addition

I use a keytar and this little gizmo has really broadened my on-stage horizons. It works well and was simple to install (no software required!)

  • Finally!!!

As reviewed by David on 11/2/2010

I have been looking for a midi wireless system for decades and when I heard about the M-Audio unit, I had to give it a shot. I use it for a midi "key-tar" and find the range to be pretty good. I got about 50 feet away before I experienced any drop outs and there were many obstacles in the area so the range could be even better in an unobstructed environment. I also tested it in my home where the signal traveled through at least 3 walls and was perfect from one end of the house to the other. I have not had the opportunity to test it live yet but I have had no problems at rehearsals where we have multiple wireless units in use at the same time. So far I am very satisfied. If it is wireless freedom you are looking for, here is your solution. Though the range is not as good as an audio wireless it is still a good bit more that you could get from a cable and hey, if you take into account the cost of a 50 foot cable, the M-Audio is a really great value.
