More for the $
I've done a lot of recording in studios and finally decided to build my own. I bout this package because it looked like a good deal. For what i paid, I cannot complain. The clearity on the vocals (990), and the crisp ness of the guitar(991)is not all that bad for the money. Of course there is always something better, but for starters these mics do not lead you wrong. I reccomend getting these if you're are short on cash.

Package Of The Year
I own both microphones and the M-AudioBuddy, but I paid way more. The M-Audio preamp was 79.99 & the MXL 990/991 microphone package was 99.99, so this is really good deal. The M-Audio Buddy is an ultra quiet totally transparent ,workhorse ,mic preamp, & direct box. Clean & simple gain, it totally compliments these 2 mics. The MXL microphones are both great quality ,& well built . The MXL 991 is a silky little gem, for close guitar miking, or over a drum kit. The MXL 990, I mainly use for vocals & acoustic guitar, with a wind screen, nice details in the highs, a fairly flat midrange,& good bass. Sensitivity is excellent. Guitar Center always has such great deals, it's the best music store ever.

Definitely worth the money
These mics are definitely worth forking over the cash. I have been building and working in my home studio for 2 years now and this was one of the best deals ive made so far. I had been struggeling to find a descent mic for recording acoustic instruments (guitar, Piano, etc.) within my price range....then i saw this deal. I instantly decided to give these mics a try and i havent been disappointed yet. The MXL 990 provides a crisp, clear reproduction of the instruments with a great full sound. i receive nice warm lows and clean definitive highs, with just the right blend. These mics are great for any acoustic application. i would definitely recommend them for anyone with a less than spectacular budget. Great sound quality, great price, very durable, just overall a great value!!!!

Good quality Super Price
I've been using this package for about a year. I'm completely satisfied. I started home recording 35 years ago. This mic/pre combo into my DAW is sweet. With proper recording technique and a reasonably quiet room you can get outstanding results with this package.

An outstanding package
The quality of the sound is excellent and transformed our very average home recording to a close to professional level on the first try. We love it. Be aware that you must buy a pop filter separately for the condenser mike.

Just can't beat it!!!
Recently I started recording music using Ableton Live and GarageBand on my Mac. I got to the point where I needed a decent condenser mic to record vocals but didn't want to sink a whole lot of money into it. I found this MXL / M-Audio kit here and decided to give a shot. The moment I set it up and tested it out, I was thoroughly impressed. The sound from the 990 was rich, warm and ultra clear. The Audio Buddy is very quiet and responsive unlike other mic pre-amps I've worked with in the past. After laying down a few vocal tracks in GarageBand, I was completely sold. Now, I've used some pretty high end mics in the past and they are in a completely different category of their own, but the performance, construction and look of these mics are all top notch. The 991 is great for recording elements for sample creation. For the price, you can't go wrong with this setup. Just treat it kindly and I'm sure it will last you a long time.

My first good microphone
I was tired of buying different mics for my computer that were around $50-$100, but when I got home and used them, all of them had a quality that I was just not happy with. One day I started looking for a very good mic on the internet, and the one that came to my attention was the MXL USB , I read a lot of reviews and decided to buy one, but then I started to think about buying a regular XLR connection type for flexibility reasons...I finally got the 990/991 audio buddy package for a mere 99 dollars... HUGE SURPRISE It is simply the best mic I've ever owned, it is just a beauty and perfect for podcasing. If you are not a singer, but looking to record your voice on your computer buy one of these and you'll love it as I do.

If you're looking for a whole lot of preamp on a tight budget, you'll see where this popular product gets its name. Affordability and performance make the Audio Buddy one of the most popular mic preamps in home recording today. You get professional microphone support along with line inputs impedance-matched for ideal performance with electric guitar and bass. Simply put, the Audio Buddy is a workhorse mic preamp that sounds great and won't hurt your budget.
