Excellence in a little package

I recently upgraded from some IE-30s and the difference is actually pretty significant. To start the feel is definitely more comfortable they switch out the cable type with a soft rubber so it doesn't seem to be as stingy when adjusting the cable around. Now on to the sound quality. Honestly I didn't really expect too much of an improvement but I must say once you get the proper setting the bass is solid and punchy as if you're standing in the front row of a personal performance. It's a really transparent sound with even the slightest detail coming to the forefront. Highs are crisp and clear whether its soft piano music or thrash-metal. Mids are not overpowered and seem to hold the fidelity of definition. Lastly the lows have the pop and deep smooth solid stability you would expect from a high dollar sub. The noise isolation: well you can put it at half volume and not hear anyone, it's great! Honestly the price is well worth every penny spent, whether recording or even everyday use like in an ipod these little inconspicuous in-ear headphones are amazing. The only downside I could see is the cable could be a little longer. Also if your ears get tired from the usual fitting you could always switch the left and right drivers to opposite sides. Either way you'll enjoy these and I rarely even write reviews for products.

Better than Etymotic ER4s

Audio detail: I thought I was hearing everything with my Etymotic ER4s, which are clear bordering on harsh, but the IE40s are showing me details I never knew were there, yet are still smooth. The bass is vivid without being overpowering. I've actually thought I was feeling the bass at times rather than just hearing it. If you want to hear every last nuance of a performance - every clap, pluck, scratch, gasp, and catch in the throat - these are for you. Cable management: The ear loops work really well. Stethoscope noise is minimal, even when clomping around the city with my clothes brushing the wires. Suggestions: These look much better with clear wires instead of the stock black ones. (The replacement wires for Ultimate Ears super.fi and triple.fi fit perfectly) And the third party Comply memory foam ear tips are a lot more comfortable and easier to insert, at least for me. These are expensive, but they are *SO* worth the money. And since the wires are user-replaceable, they'll last a lot longer than most headphones.

Great sound

I don't necessarily use these for what most people use them for. I have them plugged into my iPod touch and use them at the gym. I hear tracks on the songs I've never heard before. The 26dB of isolation really helps too, cuts everything out. Also means you don't have to turn up the music to super loud to hear it. 50% volume is all it takes. I definitely recommend.
