Good Starter Card

This is a good way to begin playing around with pc recording. The 24bit input is of good enough quality for the price so just get a descent mic pre and you are set. This was my first pc interface until I upgraded to the Presonus Firepod which showed a major increase in quality, features, etc but is also reflective of the price. This is a good way to start your ventures into the recording world.

Clean / Low Latency Card

I bought an MAudio 2496 card about four or five years ago and the audible difference between tracking with this card and anything that comes installed in a consumer PC is incredible. The sound is quite clean and the latency can be adjusted very low assuming you have decent system resources in terms of cpu and ram. I have upgraded computers and thought about upgrading to a Delta 1010 or something but, honestly, I always record one track at a time and this card delivers semi-pro results in that realm. I have kept using the 2496, even as I've upgraded the rest of my studio around it. It's been very stable and trouble-free and the control panel software is quite flexible. This is a great buy for a home or project studio where laying down a track at a time is the norm.

Best for price - period!

I bought this device more than 5 years ago, and it has been awesome all the way! The only time I needed something else was when I needed to record more than a few trancks simultaneously. Especially if you are startig out and have no idea what to get, get this, it's awesome, and the best deal for the price, hands down (the price has been more orless the same for 6+ years).

Great for certain projects...

If you're looking to use your pc to single track record then this is perfectly fine. The sound quality potential is there - if you're using clean connections and a Neumann mic you can sound pro. For musicians/songwriters on a budget this is a thumbs up card! Easy to toy with Control Panel software install - you'll probably want the H/W Outs set to Monitor Mixer. Depending on your system configuration, in your audio recording software, under Audio Device Type using ASIO might up the latency... try the Microsoft Sound Mapper instead.

Great bargain for the price.

I purchased this unit about 5 months back. I actually own a Korg Triton Extreme and was having quite a time with latency in MIDI using USB between my PC and the keyboard. I gave this card a shot using the MIDI jacks, and I'm more than happy with it! To this day I haven't experienced any issues with latency and the quality easily surpassed that of my Creative card. I also output my mic pre-amp to this unit for vocal mixing as well and it works flawlessly. One of the best purchases I've ever made.
