  • Great Card, Questionable source

As reviewed by Daniel Lee on 1/24/2010

I picked this card up to use as a high quality playback device for my Stereo. All things considered, it's a great sounding card. Currently just using TS to RCA adapters in unbalanced mode, but when my new amp comes in it's going to be TRS to XLR balanced all the way. The quality of the audio put out at 44.1 16bit is amazing (foobar + ASIO + FLAC). More depth and other audiophile-esque adjectives, nouns and verbs than playing CDs on my Marantz cd5001. It totally decimates my modded XFI. Let's see... using a ts/ts to TRS stereo headphone adapter works well. My Sennheiser 497s sing, but would benefit from a headphone amp. And I will definitely need an amp when I get my friend's Sennheiser 555s. For a quick note, I'm running a modified installation of windows XP with sp3. The driver download from the Avid (Maudio) website is just over 6mb and installed flawlessly. Remember, install the drivers FIRST before installing the card. My only issue is that the product I received was USED. The card was not damaged and performs admirably, and with the price match deal I got, I'm not going to raise a fuss. However, My order was delayed for not being in stock. When I received the card the dongle bag was ripped open, the antistatic bag wasn't sealed, and there was handwriting on the sleeve of a software CD. Did Avid ship a returned product or did GC? The world may never know.

Love this soundcard! It took me 10 minutes to install and load the necessary drivers. I have installed alot of PC add on cards, and this was the easiest install I have ever done. I am also very impressed with the sound recording quality through a peavey mixer and AKG condensers.

  • Driver Issues, but fixed.

As reviewed by Deken 87 on 10/4/2006

I recently purchased this thing and so far it has been really nice. The 192,000 Hz capabilities is nice, but not necessary. I had some driver issues, but they were fixed very quickly with updates. It is kind of messy with the wiring, but for the price, you can't beat it.
