Comments about Luna Guitars High Tide Tenor Ukulele:

I have 3 Luna ukes. They all rock. I am terribly disappointed in this one. I have to find another manufacturer for an 8 string tenor. Bummer.

Comments about Luna Guitars High Tide Tenor Ukulele:

I normally buy higher-end ukuleles. Something got in my head that I wanted an 8-string uke. I went to my normal sources, but there were none available. I came across the Luna and thought, "Well...for the price, why not?" It turned out to be a very nice product. I mean, the wood isn't as fancy as I normally get. (I think this is laminated mahogany and it comes across as boring to me, actually.) The strings seem kinda plasticky cheap, but I'm told they are GHS strings. I've never used them, although I've been meaning to try them. So I will keep these strings on there for the meantime. The tuners aren't that great. One of them gets so tight, like you've reached the end of the strings tolerance...and then suddenly spins like you broke the string. But you didn't and you can continue tightening. Very disconcerting. I've been told there's a way to fix that.

However, despite all that, it has an incredibly good sound and pretty easy playability! It can get loud if I want it to, with very little effort. It also sounds like I've got a permanent chorus pedal turned on, which is really nice to me. Of course, picking strings is a lot more challenging. I will most likely play this one in a group setting where I'm not doing solos. I did try picking with a pick and it sounds pretty good.

All in all, for the money, I think this is a pretty cool little uke with a distinctive voice. Almost mandolin-ish. The active pickup system seem to work just fine, too. I will most likely have a custom baritone 8-string built, now that I've had a taste of a multi-string. But I think I'll have some fun with this little guy.
