Nothing Cheap about this Snare Drum

By George

from Seattle, Wa

Comments about Ludwig Supralite Steel Snare Drum:

I just bought this 6x13 yesterday at GC Seattle. I've always liked this size snare drum and have a Tama B/B Starclassic Kit I have owned 3 of them, and had to custom order a 6x13 from Tama, and fell in Love with that size. I tell you I used it at rehearsal last night with the Heads that came with it, and it sounded Amazing, we did everything from Savor Brown, to Deep Purple to Jazz and Funk and this snare delivered! and surprised that it did't have the annoying ring that most budget stainless snare drums have. I mean I like my drums and snares to ring a bit, I like the open sound, but half a moongel will take care of that. And I checked it and there is nothing cheap about this snare, the wires are good, the snare but and adjusters are not cheap and the hoops are 2.3 can't wait to update the drum heads, but for now, It sounds great..for under $200.00 it's worth every penny.

OMG !!! New go too snare

By Tim

from Charleston SC

Comments about Ludwig Supralite Steel Snare Drum:

After looking at reviews and you tube videos, actually none had this size on video...went to store and asked to play on with a set that was up. Well I knew right away that this had potential and proceeded to check out counter. Got home and just tweaked up half a turn on each lug and put just a half moon gel on the edge of the original head.....wow !!!! great tone in middle and the edge crack is awesome, next day played at gig it keeps getting better!!!....going to be using this snare a lot.Went to look on Ludwig web site to find but not there, there's talk on web that these could be special made for Guitar Center but can't be as I see other big box stores selling as well.No matter who made these, they are great!!!

Won't dissapoint

By Jason

from Ogden Utah

Comments about Ludwig Supralite Steel Snare Drum:

I don't write reviews. But after a few days of playing this new snare, I had to share. I played the snare in the store, and I could tell right away how good this drum could sound. I took it home and started playing around with it. I tightened the batter head a tad, then tightened the snare side a just a bit higher and the drum sounds AMAZING! The drum is very focused and bright. There is no ringing, unless I play by the rims, then I get a little more ring, sounds great playing ghost notes this way. I took it to practice the next day and had to tighten then snares a little when we started playing to get rid of the snare buzz. Once locked in, they could tell a difference right away. They loved how defined the sound is, they could hear everything I played on it. The drum has great range, but is very sensitive. I play funk, and had to play with a lighter touch to not get too loud.

Comments about Ludwig Supralite Steel Snare Drum:

As I mentioned above I got one with a striped lug*. The drum sounded pretty good to start with. I replaced the top head with a evans dry. The snares I left alone--they sound just fine. I can play this snare all day.

    Lovin' this sucker

Comments about Ludwig Supralite Steel Snare Drum:

I was in Guitar Center to buy something else and they had a Bunch of snares set up...so naturally I had to give a few a wack. This one instantly won me over...it sounded better than ones costing a lot more. I have a Tama Imperialster kit and I love the toms and bass drum (yes, it's called a bass drum...as all us old farts know!) - but I never really warmed up to the Imperialstar snare. I picked up the Supralite a few weeks ago and it's been a great addition to my kit. I haven't seen any of the hardware issues some have been reporting, and the snares can be completely thrown off with no problem. There's something about this drum that just makes you want to hit it...a nice metallic ring, but no irritating high pitched stuff that can't be tamed out with a moongel or a little electrical tape. Definitely recommend!
