My live drum

By Jarid Chism

Comments about Ludwig Epic Brick Birch 20-Ply Snare Drum:

This snare drum is perfect. It's loud, it great has a great tone at any tension, and it's heavy. The snare strainer is a little flimsy, but, i was gonna change it anyway, but other then that, it's extremely well built. Once I bought this drum, I sold almost all my other ones, this is the only drum i play live.

i'll give it a 3.5 star.

Comments about Ludwig Epic Brick Birch 20-Ply Snare Drum:

I was in the market for a snare and playing this in the store's showroom, it sounded good and the price is right. The store owner told me "since it's made overseas, ludwig can give incredible quality with this drum while having an amazing price". As I said the price was right and it sounded good, so I picked it up. I have to say, I haven't been blown away by this drum, even after replacing the hoops. It definitely CAN sound amazing, but I've found it rather difficult to tune and also that it doesn't hold a tuning extremely well. It is true that I hit quite hard (especially on the snare), so perhaps a less hard-hitting drummer would have better luck. For a beginner to moderate drummer, I'd say this snare is a pretty good bet. For someone more advanced and playing gigs regularlywho is fairly picky about tonality, sound, and reliability, I'd probably suggest saving up your cash a little bit longer and going a more expensive route. I must admit, I find myself wishing I'd done that. 3.5/5 stars.

great drum

Comments about Ludwig Epic Brick Birch 20-Ply Snare Drum:

just recently picked this drum up and it is a cannon! i tuned the top head loose with some muffling and it was instant don henley. medium tension gave it a great crack, but my favorite tuning is cranked fairly tight, very similar to vinnie paul's snare sound on "cowboys from hell". the drums is very well built, especially for the price. it is noticebly heavier than a mid 80's 14"x6.5" pearl steel snare i have, and it has an extended snare system. the only (small) complaint i have is that the strainer seems a bit cheap compared to the rest of the drums features. maybe i'm being picky, but it is the only reason i didn't give it five stars. highly recommended!

Comments about Ludwig Epic Brick Birch 20-Ply Snare Drum:

I bought the blue burst which is discontinued. The best looking drum of the epic snare line. Small point but the round ludwig badge looked a lot better than the Epic badge. The sound of the snare for some reason doesn't sound woody enough--it's almost more like a steel snare--high pitched--don't get me wrong the snare still sounds good. The snare strainer is heavier and functions better then the p85. I changed the top head to evans dry and the snare wires to prosound 30. The original wires are useless. The wires on the supralite are great--which what they should have put on this drum. I would recommend this drum to others if they are looking for this sound of drum, but you have to try it out for yourself. If the ocdp 25 ply snare looked like the epic brick I would have bought it instead or in combination with the brick--which is probably what I will do. The sound of the ocdp is warmer--maple, you get die-cast hoops and a trick strainer all for a little bit more money. I don't like the finish silver sparkle and no gaskets on the vent holes.
