Nice - Needs care with tuning

Comments about Ludwig Epic Brick 20-ply Birch Snare Drum:

Let me preface this review with an opinion : "I don't like metallic sounds out of a wooden snare" This snare is capable of more twang than the bridge pickup on a Texas Telecaster (That's a lot). The snare came with Chinese Remo UK heads and once tuned up the snare would bark like a dog (very loud) but had that darn twang. Two pieces of Moongel brought it down a notch to an acceptable level. I replaced the resonant head with an Evans Hazy 300 and the Batter side with an Evans EC Reverse dot. I Tuned the drum up pretty tight and the sound was absolutely terrible. The twang had turned into a ringing that I could never get rid of even with the moongel. I was about to put the factory head back on and return the drum to GC but I decided to try another head. I used an Evans Genera HD Dry batter head and tuned it up tight. The difference was very notable. The twang was back but much more subdued. A single application of Moongel brought the overtones to an acceptable level for me. Cosmetically the drum is very pretty and the finish was well done although quite a bit darker than the pictures. There were some rough edges on the hoops that should have been removed at the factory. Overall for $210 I feel like I got a snare I can use and hang on to.

Comments about Ludwig Epic Brick 20-ply Birch Snare Drum:

When getting this snare I was not to sure about it, but as soon as I tuned this baby up talk about CRACK! The stock heads were not to great and I swapped em out immediately. If youre looking for a snare that cracks and is beautiful this is it!
