Clean, punchy, responsive!

Comments about Ludwig Aluminum Snare Drum:

A very different sound. No matter what style you play, if you just want a different vowel sound (more "ah", less "oh") to your kit, or if you are recording or playing live and always eq-ing the mid away from your snare no matter how you tune it, then try this snare (especially with extra wires, like a Super 30). Many other snares vary in size/material, but are still members of the same "family", within the group (differences are often very subtle) but this aluminum snare is different from the other guys. By comparison, the average snare has a lot of low mid, boxiness even. We love those snare for what the are, but this one is all snap, less ring, but still lots of personality and presence, and virtually no "boxiness", or bark. Not thin, just different. Less "sock" and more "smash". Sort of like it's eq-ed already. - I love it!

Ludwig's Dirty Little Secret

By Monday317

from Washington D. C.

Comments about Ludwig Aluminum Snare Drum:

The Chrome Supraphonic so famous for its use in recording studios for the past 50 years or so had the same aluminum shell as this puppy right here. Yes, you can buy one today for an extra $100 USD or so--but why?? This drum (AKA "Acrolite") sound the same. Wanna really tick off a drummer? Take your "Student Grade" Acrolite to a Supraphonic owner and play it for him. And watch his jaw drop as he realizes he paid an extra hundred for two lugs and a chrome job... HAW!! Bottom line: Want to upgrade your snare sound? Start here!

One of the greats!

Comments about Ludwig Aluminum Snare Drum:

Who would of thought that a snare drum that was originally designed & marketed as a student drum would become such a hit with even the professionals. After hearing this drum in recordings & as popular drum samples found within much of the drum software & keyboards - you'll understand why the Acrolite became such a hit. I found out about this drum after falling in love with a snare drum sample found within my Yamaha Motif keyboard. I loved the snare drum sample so much that I emailed Yamaha to find out what drum had been recorded for this particular sample. Low & behold it turned out to be a "Ludwig Acrolite". This drum ultimately became my favorite snare drum. And to think that this is not a very expensive snare as far as snare drums go. This drum has been a favorite for many, including drummers such as John Bonham. Yeah, I know, he was known for playing a Ludwig Supraphonic - but he also played the incredible simple & effective Ludwig Acrolite.

The crack heard around the world

By Deven

Comments about Ludwig Aluminum Snare Drum:

This snare creates a dry, cracking, punchy tone.i put an Evans hazy 300 and hd dry and it made it loud, cracky without much sustain. If you have the money, this a definite snare to have in your collection.

The greatest snare ever!!!

By Timothy

from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Ludwig Aluminum Snare Drum:

I have had this snare for 3 years now, and I am still in love with it. It's loud enough for rock, but sensitive enough for any musical style. Since I bought this I have purchased other snares for twice as much, but I just keep coming back to this one and have ended up selling every other snare I had. It's just what a snare is supposed to sound like without any added coloration of the tone. It is very clean and crisp with a strong attack.
