i was disappointed at first when we got this product because it was smaller than it looks for sure. so make sure you read the dimensions. But my disappointment was short lived cuz once my boyfriend started putting it together and we could hear how it sounded i was impressed. it is really sturdy too. the whole set together sounds awesome except when it comes to the crash cymbal. the high hat is decent, but the crash cymbal sounds like tin. u have a full beat going on and then u hit the cymbal and its like "ding" LOL. my boyfriend just put one of his cymbals on the stand for our son, but the one it came with is seriously unuseable. hope this helps with your decision. Overall, i am happy with my purchase.

First off check the dimensions before you buy this set. The size of the bass drum is definitly a negative against this review. If you are looking for a set for a younger child this would be a perfect fit. It would be ideal for children ages 3-5. The snare sounds good but the cymbals need replacing, unless you are just buying this as a toy for your younger child. This set is a good idea if you are going to test the waters with your kid to see if he is going to take up playing seriously or just bang away for fun.

Love my sons 5 piece Jr Ludwig kit

By Marilynn

from Federal Way, WA

We're very pleased with the 5 pc.Jr kit. Our 8 year old had a toy drum kit he beat to death so he needed this upgrade, and LOVES it! Positive: the kit is better/higher quality than what we expected, with exceptional pitch/sound. The drawback:assembly took 3+ hours, and the directions were missing. The packet of a gazillion pieces of hardware was initially daunting but worked out OK and no pieces were missing. Our teen, a rock musician sat at this kit and had a ball. My husband, a blues musician [and perfectionist]is surprisingly impressed with it. This is a solid HIT!

Ludwig 5-Piece Junior Drum Set with Cymbals

By Carlos

from Florida

This 5-piece junior drum set is awsome! It's the real deal and it sounds just like the big Drums sets Professional uses in their gigs. My son loves it and it's worth all the money you spend on it. Cymbals not great but good. Go and Buy it you wont regret it!

Good Value

By Barton Drooks

from Dallas, Texas

Everything was as advertised. My set came with no assembly instructions included, but did include a drum key and a pair of junior sticks. It's a nice enough trap set, far better than other junior kits I looked at, and my kids are enjoying it. At some point I'll be replacing the cymbal, hat, and some of the hardware. Get this for your little aspiring drummer before you go buy some of the other junk that's out there masquerading as 'junior drum kits'. Delivery was free and timely.

Best deal anywhere

By Chris

from Tulsa,ok.

We had purchased this drum set after several trips to a local guitar center, this set was not in the store and we found it here on the Internet. The set has no directions, we used the photo as a guide, but nothing was to difficult to put together due to packaging. Toms, and snare rock, loud crisp and clear, the base drum will require some tuning as I am a total novice at drums, the high hats are great, and the crash as stated seems a little tinny. The hadware is top notch for a junior set, and all the heads seem replacable, a great starter set.

Amazing Starter Kit!

By Rod

from Paso Robles, CA

I bought this kit as a Christmas gift for my 5-year old son who wants to play drums like good ol' dad.̴_ Wow, was I pleasantly surprised at the quality of these drums - very sturdy, good-looking and great sounding.̴_ Easy set-up for a drummer (no instructions included), and even easier to move around the house due to their small size.̴_ Cymbals and hardware leave something to be desired, but overall it's a cool little starter kit!̴_ My son absolutely loves 'em and I know the drums will last for years to come!̴_ Will eventually have to replace cymbals and hardware, though. Definitely worth the price!!!

Nice drums, okay hi hat, lame crash/ride

By David Hughes

from OR

So, the drums themselves are pretty nice for a "junior" kit. They tune up well, and the stock heads aren't all that bad. The hardware is kinda cheap, but again, not bad for a beginner set. The shortcoming on this package are the cymbals...specifically the "crash/ride". Absolutely terrible. The hats work well enough, but the other cymbal is pretty much a joke. That all said, though, the kit is pretty sweet for a kid's kit, and a good deal overall. I'm pretty satisfied..and my son digs it too. :)

Too small

By djvictor

from California

It's nice and cute but way to small for my son, his 10 years old and short and still looks very small. probably for 4 to 8 year boy will be good. AAAAAhhh! if you don't know nothing about drums think about it, cuz it comes with no instructions at all.

Great Drum Set

By Ms. A

from Ceres, CA

We bought this jr. drum set for our daughter and she just cannot seem to stop playing it. It is the perfect size for a tall 3 year old that has a serious ear already for sound. We are happy with it. The only thing that will be replaced are the hi-hat and crash cymbals they sound a little tinnish. But other than that a very well put together drum set.

You May Need A Little Help

By Cliff Yeager

from Marietta, GA

This is a great drum set for a small child. However, the assembly required to turn this from a box full of parts and heads into a drum set is more than a non-drummer could handle and there are no instructions/pictures in the box. Be prepared to enlist help from a drummer to put this kit together.

Not bad...

By Mom

from Bay Area, CA

First, let me say that I don't know much about drums or music. We purchased this set for my 5 year old. To my untrained ear, it is a little more toyish then I thought it was going to be... But he is having fun.

Great Drum set

By Brittany

from Riverside, Ca

This set is actually a great starter set for a child. I am glad that it's not as loud as a regular set, but it's loud enough for a child. I would recommend this to any person wanting to buy a drum set for there child!

Impressed

By single mom

from Houston, TX

After researching several different types of drums that were age appropriate I made the choice to buy the Ludwig Junior set. Since buying the drum set 2 weeks ago I feel that was a great purchase. Although they are loud they sound very good. The cymbal doesn't sound good but it's okay for now. I would definate recommend this set to anyone considering buying drums for their child. The only problem I had is that the set did not come with assembly instructions. This is very important when you are a single mom and have no clue how to put the set together. However, I was able to put it together by looking at the picture online and asking a friend to help. Go ahead and get them you will not be disappointed.

Great Ludwig Jr. kit

By Rumplestiltskin

from Denton, Texas

This is a great kit for a kid just starting out. I was surprised at the quality of the drums and the hardware. Comparable to a full-size kit, this Jr. kit is built to scale and my 2 yr old loves it. He has been playing on a kids toy kit and has outgrown it. It even comes with a miniature set of sticks. The sound of the drums is excellent, if you put Remo pinstripe heads on it would sound like a jazz kit. Very impressed with the workmanship and the quality of this Jr. kit. I would recommend getting some Zildjian or Sabian splashes to supplement the cheap bronze cymbals that come with the kit. Other than that, this product is a winner.

Nice set for my 4 yr. old grandson

By Me

from washington state

The set was better than I expected for a scaled down version for my 4 year old grandson. The drums were fine, but the pedals and cymbals need to be upgraded, but is expected for a child size set. The only real problem was it was defecive. The throne had a hole punctured in it and one of the lugs on the mid tom was screwed in crooked. This made it hard to put on the heads and tune it. We had to send the kit back to guitar center for an exchange.

Nice set

By Dan

from Ocean View NJ

I bought this set for my 5 year old. Not only is it a perfect size for kids, it also sounds great, looks great, and even my older son and all their friends love it. I did need a drum mat cause it scratches the hard wood. Also if you never put a drum set together all you get is a picture on the internet to go by. We got it together and my kids love it. I went to the store in Mayslanding NJ to buy it and the guys there ordered it and had it shipped to me. They were very helpful and new everything about drums I needed to ask. If you don't know what to buy they are the ones to ask. They steared me away from more money items and gave me just what my son and I needed. Thanks

Small

By ZPunk

from Weston, WV

I bought this so when my friend comes over, we could jam, without bringing his set over. This thing showed up on my porch the next day!!!I saw one box. I was like, "Oh it must just be the bass drum", but it wasn't. It was the entire set. It's REALLY small, but it sounds good. The Ride(or whatever)cymbal was horribly bent when I got it, but I didn't send it back cause it sounds sorta like a China now. I bought it blemished though, what can you expect?

Its a great starter drum kit.

By john

from Centreville, VA

I new nothing about drums when I got this. I based my decision on the past reviews and found it was everything they claimed it to be. At first I was at a loss on how to put the thing together but then I downloaded the manual from Ludwig and everything fell into place. I put it together for my daughter and we found a free video lesson online to get us started. She has got the highhat/snare/bass drum beat down pat and she will get her first real lesson shortly. It looks beautiful and plays beautifilly except for the symbol which is what I expected because of its small size. Eventually I will replace the symbol with a bigger one. The rest of it sounds like a regular drum kit. Very happy with my purchase!
