I replaced the stock P-85 throw on my Black Beauty with this. I was frustrated with the P-85 because it was sticky and the lever rose above the rim, which got in the way. The P-86 was easy to install (same hole configuration as the P-85). It has a drop throw-off, which I prefer. It is smooth, engages positively, and looks like it belongs on that drum.
When the throw off on my stock Ludwig Custom Elite snare broke, I considered upgrading to a P-85 like my Acrolite snare. After looking at the P-86, I decided to give this one a try. The mechanism is simpler than the 85, with fewer moving parts. i doubt this throw off will ever break. This was a great upgrade to my snare.
I purchased the P86 to replace a sticky P85 on a 90s 6.5 BB. The positive: The P86 is super smooth to engage/disengage and feels very positive. When in the off position, the snares are at least 1/8" off the resonant head. So far it's been a great throwoff. The negative: In the product picture, the screws that hold the snare strap in place are the square head style, but the screws were phillips/flat head on the unit I received. I'd really prefer the square head screw as phillips are way too easy to strip. No instructions were included but install was pretty self explanatory. Note that when attaching the throwoff to the shell, the screw head is on the inside, the threads go through the shell pointing to the outside.
