I just recently bought this and am blown away at how awesome i have it sounding already. The tom heads that come with it are pretty terrible so I put on some remo coated ambassadors and they sound great. The snare and bass heads aren't horrible, but I am definitely going to switch them out when I can scrape together some more money. The bass drum is really boomy... which is a good thing in my opinion. I've barely messed around with tuning the set thus far but its already sounding really good. It doesn't take long to get a good sound and I look forward to being able to tweak things and getting the kit sounding at its fullest potential. I'm really glad to see that Ludwig is making a come back. The classic design is pretty much what sold me on these. Its worth every cent, I definitely recommend buying these particularly if you play in an indie/rock band or even a jazz group.
I have a cousin that has this set and absolutely loves it. I personally do not play drums, not coordinated enough, but I know my cousin has always played Ludwig sets and this is his favorite set by far. Another plus for some people is that John Fred Young of Black Stone Cherry uses this set, only with the cigar smoking cherry on the bass head.
I just ordered the Ludwig Centennial 4 piece set and it is awesome. The all maple shells sound great and the natural lacquer finish is absolutely beautiful. I put an evans emad head on the kick along with a small pillow inside and it is booming. The stock heads on the toms aren't great but are doing the job (I would recommend replacing those). The snare has a sweet crack and will sound better when I replace the stock head. Overall, I highly recommend this kit for someone looking for great sound and a classic look at an affordable price.
