  Ludwig command the market when it comes to metal snares, and with this it's easy to see why. Everything works with this to make it seriously powerful drum, the brass shell, the cavernous depth, the die-cast hoops and the tube lugs all give this a devastating backbeat, comparable to a shotgun, great for a load of contemporary styles from alternative rock right through to metal. However, despite the depth, it's actually more sensitive under the stick than the 6.5" depth model, with potential for great press and buzz rolls, and also ghost notes in jazz, with the exact same tuning of super tight reso head and medium tight batter head. This must be the most versatile 8" depth snare in the world right now, I could see myself tuning this up and using the immense power to have a really commanding crack in funk and dance as well. Anyone who is looking for a snare that can tackle anything playing in a modern band can throw at it would do well to try this out.

  this snare drum is truly one great snare... articulate. punchy and powerful.... tuned high it has a sweet slight ring with a powerful crack.. the die cast rims add that beautiful rim shot ..brass has that warm sound ,you don't get with steel snares. the black magic 8x14 has become my snare of choice.. i love playing it. i was a steel drum player for years...then wanted the voice of maple...but now.... brass is it. kudos to Ludwig for making this beauty... every drummer needs this snare in their arsenal.
