  • Great playability, short lifespan

As reviewed by Jeremy on 5/4/2015

I purchased this pedal for my church due to a tight budget. When it arrived, I tested it and noticed some thing that I loved: -Pedal is fast -smooth -lightweight -adjustable This pedal has been used lightly 2 days a week for under two moths. Just yesterday the pedal spring snapped in the middle of rehearsal under moderate tension. Thinking it would be an easy fix, I bought a new spring without realizing that the spring needed is EXTREMELY SPECIFIC. You cannot simply replace the spring due to its uniquely large and long hooks, with the bottom of the spring riveted to the lower part of the mechanism, which means you have to buy an entire new spring mechanism! On top of that, literally NO ONE, online or in store, sells that particular replacement spring mechanism. I'm having to contact Ludwig directly to see if they can even send me the part. BOTTOM LINE: The pedal feels great and looks great, however some of the components are unreliable and very hard to get a hold of. For something that is being used for many years to come, I would go with another pedal that has more durability and easily-accessible replacement parts.

  • Inexplicably Crap

As reviewed by Spencer on 4/27/2015

I don't know how they did it, but they took a relatively straightforward component that has withstood the test of time for decades and reduced it to a completely useless piece of garbage. I have been fiddling with this thing for months trying to get the action right (I am playing on a Ludwig Breakbeats Kit), and have never been happy with it, when moments before a gig the female part of the beater set screw completely stripped out. Luckily I had an extra old school Tama pedal so the show could go on. I was actually relieved when this pedal broke so that I could give it the funeral it deserves. I am wondering why I ever ventured away from the Tama Iron Cobra? I never ever had any problems with that one, but this one has been nothing BUT problems. I expected a lot more from Ludwig in this area. Great drums, lousy pedal. Sorry Ludwig, you guys missed the mark on this one.
