I fully did not intend to purchase a guitar when I went in to GC, but after playing this thing (the last one I touched, ironically) I bought it immediately, figuring that they must have mistakenly put the wrong price tag on it. I've been playing for years and this one was among the best of the bunch in terms of playability and intonation, and could more than hold its own against hand-crafted guitars costing $3,000 and up. It has an immediate, almost piano-like attack and a bright, ringing sustain. When I got it home, I at first noticed some annoying buzz which I attributed to the low action causing notes to "fret out"; however, it turns out that this was just the piezo tone/volume control rattling in its mount, which was easily fixed by tightening the mounting screws. The best thing about this guitar is that it has a truss rod (unusual and possibly even unnecessary on a nylon string classical guitar) which allows for an ultra-flat radius fretboard and "D" shaped neck (think of Ibanez electric guitars), all of which makes playing it almost effortless.

I recently began playing classical guitar and wanted an entry level guitar. This seemed perfectly in my price range and I was hopeful it would be of good enough build to last me a few years. I read the few reviews on here and was satisfied with the other reviewer's satisfaction. I tested the floor model out at the store and continued to be satisfied. After buying a fresh one in the box, I took it home to start practicing. Almost immediately I noticed an awful fret buzz located in the first 3 frets on nearly every string. Yes, it's a cheap guitar, but that doesn't mean it should make this unappealing noise on so many ftrets - if you're a musician with any skill level, you will notice it immediately and it will most likely bug the hell out of you. I exchanged it the next day for the same model, also fresh out of the box. Exact same problem. Yes, it's mass produced, and some "less-than-satisfactory" models will leave the factory, but having had 2 of these in a row have faulty string buzz on nearly every fret (therefore, unavoidable), and having adjusted the nut in the neck to try to alleviate the issue to no avail, I returned this subpar product to the store, shelled out an extra $100 and got the Maneul Rodriguez 11 Cabellero model and am unbelievably satisfied with the build and sound of the guitar. In conclusion, being a beginner to the classical guitar (though not to guitar in general), I wouldn't even recommend this guitar to another beginner - it's not worth the money, and it's absolutely worth the money to save up and spend a little more.

REAL CLASSICAL SOUND FROM A PSSIVE-PRE :)

By O, EL

from Essexville, MI

Comments about Lucero LC100CE Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Classical Guitar:

I reached for this fabulous guitar for the benefit of the pre-amp which succesfully reciprocated the sounds of the classical guitar rather than reproducing "steel-string" sounds. I was marveled because it's the true sound of the classical through and through. I plugged in to a Backstar and a Roland Cube; both reproduced the excellent sounds whilst the added effects opened a WHOLE NEW VIBE never taking away form the classical feel. I FINALLY HAVE TRUE SOUND CLASSICAL GUITAR ON STEROIDS :)

Excellent for the money

By JOHN PUENTES

Comments about Lucero LC100CE Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Classical Guitar:

I like to go into the GC acoustic room, pick out a half dozen guitars in a certain style and price range, and play them all till one rises to the top. It's usually pretty easy after going through them all a couple times to get down to a couple favorites. This guitar surprised me with its playability at such a low price. It easily outperformed other models that cost $100 more. If it is lacking anywhere, it would be toneL but what do you expect for $200. That's what I am giving it 5 stars: it is definitely a 5 star $200 guitar! Not to say you shouldn't try each instrument, as there may be a difference in quality form one to another (true even in expensive guitars), but Lucero has earned some respect from me for the quality of this instrument. I did not plan to buy a guitar that day, but for $200, and as nice as it played and sounded, I couldn't pass it up. I expect it will make a nice beginners guitar for one of my grandkids.

A Great Value!

By John Larsen

from Granite Bay, CA

Comments about Lucero LC100CE Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Classical Guitar:

I have been playing for 17 years, and own/play higher-end classical and electric guitars. I wanted a lesser-expensive cutaway with amplification for casual playing. I visited the Sacramento store and picked up the Lucero LC100CE, and I was instantly impressed by the tone and sound projection. I was immediately sold! After getting the Lucero LC100CE home, I was further impressed by the sound when I plagged in. The tone and volume controls were easy to use. There was no 'humming' or background noise. I appreciate the passive pickup and not having to deal with a 9V battery. The guitar is comfortable, has good intital set-up from the factory, and the action is light. I did, however, install Schaller Hauser gold tuners with Ebony buttons for more accurate tuning. The stock tuners weren't bad, I am just a bit picky in that way. The overall finish is beautiful and durable, and with the added Schaller bling this one will be in my collection for a long time. Lucero LC100CE is a great value all day long!

First Classical Guitar

By James Warren

from Savannah, GA

Comments about Lucero LC100CE Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Classical Guitar:

I am not a pro, I am a guitar hobbyist and church musician. Having said that, when I opened the box, the finish surprised me. The instrument really looks great, with a lot of attention to cosmetic detail. After two days of string stretching (which I understand is perfectly normal), It holds tune just fine. I have not had it set up yet, but even out of the box the action is reasonable. The important thing though, is that it sounds GREAT!! Acoustically, the sound is very pure and clean. Plugged in, the pickups are very well balanced from string to string. I am really happy with the choice, and will have absolutely no hesitation to play it in public. At this price, somehow, WOW doesn't seem to do it. Great guitar, and I recommend it highly.

since I had to have one...

By Rob Weaver

from Fort Washington, MD

Comments about Lucero LC100CE Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Classical Guitar:

I'm playing a community theater show that calls for nylon string acoustic, and I didn't have one. Fortunately, I was able to borrow a fairly nice Takamine to get me through the gig. But I figured since I'm doing a lost of theater, and I've been playing for about 47 years, I ought to have one of my own. I played a bunch of different nylon string electrics, including $1000+ Godin's, various Takamine's, and Yamaha's, including the "silent" ones; I was uniformly unimpressed. I went to GC to look at the Cordoba (sp?), which were OK, but not anything I wanted to plunk down $600+ on. Almost on a whim I picked up this guitar, and after playing it for about five minutes and checking all the frets on all strings for buzzing (there wasn't any) unplugged it and went looking for a salesman. I REALLY like that this guitar doesn't require a battery for the pickup to work. No battery means no DEAD battery at performance time, and passive volume and tone controls are all I ever need; if I need more, I plug it into my Digitech RG1000... I declined the optional insurance - for the price, if it breaks, I'll buy another one, and if it gets stolen, I'll definitely buy another one. This guitar is a great value in all aspects; if plays well, sounds good, has good fit and finish, and not that it matters in the orchestra pit, looks pretty good too. I wouldn't wait too long to get one if your in the market - they're likely to go pretty quickly.
