Comments about Londoner Bows One Star Violin Bow:
When I first bought a violin a few years ago I believed the "squeaking on a blackboard" sound was due to me being a rookie, which I am sure is partly true. I bought a better bow from another retailer some months later, and though it was a little better, it wasn't much better. Realizing I would have to pay more for something nice, I spent the $140 plus on this and it made a world of difference. This bow is light but sturdy and yes, a nice bow can and does make one's playing improve greatly. True, a virtuoso can use a toy and make it sound good, but this bow is definitely recommended for the advanced beginner. I have over thirty years experience on guitar with a little familiarity of mandolin, and since violin and mandolin use the same tuning albeit an octave apart, once you know the tuning it's attainable. The sound is rich and full, even on a cheaper instrument, making the hours of practice worth it. I have no regrets buying this particular bow.
