Impressive - Best I've used of this class

Comments about Livewire 4-Channel Headphone Amplifier:

I'll start by noting that the first one I received had a bad channel 3, so do test it thoroughly in case you get a bad one. GC was great about that and I easily received a replacement that works well. I still gave this 5 stars because this is the best sounding, most powerful, most accurate multi-channel headphone amp I've ever used (I've used several in small recording studio environments). The fact that it has L&R balanced inputs moves this into a class above the competitors I've seen. This means that you can make a separate headphone mix in your DAW and run this straight off of monitor AUX outputs. It also means you can get all the clean punchy sound from your balanced outputs. It's also quite clean and punchy from the unbalanced headphone input, too, but balanced signals are generally better just by how they work. This is the only amp I've tried that is actually more accurate, punchier, and cleaner than the direct headphone amp on my best recording interface. I use a Behringer amp like this when I need more than 4 headsets at a time, but it doesn't have near as much clean power this Livewire HA204 has. The hardware generally has a pro-quality feel to it, too. As with any good headphone amp, be careful of your hearing. When an amp is capable of clean levels this high, you can get used to higher SPLs comfortably, so watch how loud you use this and for how long to avoid hearing damage. Great amp - possibly the best you can get by a good margin in its price range.

Excellent headphone amp

Comments about Livewire 4-Channel Headphone Amplifier:

There aren't many reviews on this item to be found, so I thought I'd write my own. I just purchased the unit from my local GC and hooked it into my system. I needed a unit that would deliver a signal to my monitor phones, as well as to my receiver which powers a pair of Monitor One passive speakers, allowing me to control volume to each independently. Well, this unit does the job. The signal from each output is clean and clear, and appears to have no distortion at higher volumes. And it certainly has lots of gets way louder than I want when either channel is turned even close to the 12 o'clock position. Although I've just bought it in the past few days, it appears to be really well made, so I hope to get plenty of service out of it. If you're like me, and you weren't ready to plunk down $1000 for one of the top-line units, I think you'd find this unit to your liking. From my point of view, at least, highly recommended.

Needed a headphone amp for my stereo system and recording purposes.

Comments about Livewire 4-Channel Headphone Amplifier:

Picked this cool little gizmo up from Guitar Center in Sherman Oaks yesterday afternoon, whilst on my way to a recording session. Took it home later in the evening, hooked it up to my stereo system, plugged in some headphones, and Voila! It runs off a power adapter, which comes with the unit, is easy to install, and all 4 h/p channels worked perfectly. Unlike a lot of onboard h/p jacks built into equipment these days, this unit really packs a wallop, having plenty of volume, and more than enough power to drive several of my different impedance headphones, with headroom to spare. I had the volume up from a quarter to halfway, depending on the impedance of the respective headphones' I was using. Being portable, it's simple and quick to disconnect, and I fully expect it to work just fine for recording purposes, plus the on/off switch is a bonus. No complaints. Great unit! No complaints.

Comments about Livewire 4-Channel Headphone Amplifier:

Bought this for a live situation running signal containing a click on one side and a sequenced track on the other for the drummer, DJ and keyboard player monitoring the sequence. Worked without a problem for 8 months, then the power adaptor failed on a gig. I figured, this should be easy enough. There's a part number on it so I'll just call and order a replacement. Forget it! Not available. It doesn't run on batteries so I wasted my money. The lesson, don't buy anything you can't get replacement parts for. That's typical for electronics that are not established brands. It did sound great when it worked.

DOA unit

Comments about Livewire 4-Channel Headphone Amplifier:

Purchased this item on clearance. Unit was an open box, which the website didn't indicate. It came with only the unit and power adapter, no retail box, no manual... Plugged in and there was no sound. After further test, the unit had some minimal sound when the volume knob was turned to 10-11 clock. The noise disappears after 11 clock. Now I think it can be confirmed that the unit was a lemon and it was not that I didn't plug in correctly...

When I called customer service, rep told me that any clearance meant it could be a demo unit that have been previous but not a return... and the unit was sold by a store so she "cannot even touch it" and refused to send another unit. I will have to go to a store for exchange or return.

I guess I will avoid guitar center at all cost. When I purchased it, it was on clearance but it said nothing about a demo unit. but how can a unit "demo" anything if it was not working...
