The Line 6 Variax Workbench 1.5 guitar modeling software takes you inside your Variax 300, 500, 600, 700 or Acoustic 700 guitar. Workbench 1.5 fully personalizes any Line 6 Variax guitar with live or studio ambient modes, alternate tunings, mic position, compressor, and trim controls.

Line 6 Workbench 1.5 is a combination USB interface and music software package that allows you to see and hear the physical changes to your custom settings in real time. Now you can tweak each string's tuning on your favorite model, build the ultimate 12-string acoustic guitar from any of the available models, or put variations of your favorite guitars in every slot on the model knob!

With Line 6 Variax Workbench's Librarian you can keep track of your custom guitars, store them on your computer's hard drive, email them to friends, or just make a CD-ROM backup so you can load your guitars into any Variax guitar you use.

Using the special RJ-45 connector, the Variax Workbench modeling software lets you go inside and create custom guitar models. Using the included custom digital Variax cable and converter box, you can edit via USB on any Windows or Mac OSX computer and tweak the guitar entirely on-screen. You can see and hear in real time exactly what you're building!

Live and Studio modes
If you're playing a room that's heavily tiled and boomy, switching to Live mode will give you dry sound that has the room-like reflections taken off the guitar model. However, if you're recording direct, Studio mode will give you all the air and lush body modeling that you'll need for a warm and realistic guitar track.

Mic position slider
This microphone slider gives you the ability to move the microphone model. When you decrease the slider's value it is as if you are moving the microphone closer to the guitar's sound hole. This emphasizes more of the guitar body model and the lower frequencies. When increasing the slider's value, you de-emphasize the guitar body model and hear more of an emphasis on the upper frequencies.

Compression setting slider
The Line 6 Variax Workbench 1.5 software makes getting great studio-quality compression easy. At 0°, you get a natural uncompressed sound for gentle, dynamic finger picking. As you move the slider towards 100%, the compressor delivers a punchy attack and smooth release for more aggressive strumming with a pick.

Trim volume slider
By default, the TRIM slider is set at unity gain (0dB). TRIM allows you to attenuate or boost your guitar from -18dB up to +6dB.

Great addition to Variax

By TG Hoffman

Comments about Line 6 Variax Workbench 1.5:

This is straight and to the point. If you own a Variax guitar, do yourself a favor and, get this. If you follow the online tutorials and download all the info it will work perfectly. It also has firmware updates for all the models in the guitar. This alone is Great!

Comments about Line 6 Variax Workbench 1.5:

After loading on three different computers, one being an Apple, I cannot get Workbench to acknowledge that the USB hub is connected. Workbench can see the hub but reports that it is not connected. Line 6 web site remedies almost require gutting all programs, etc. I have tried without success to get it to work.

Comments about Line 6 Variax Workbench 1.5:

Three different computers will not report the USB hub as "connected". Checking the LINE 6 sight I find individuals who have had this problem for a year or more with no resolution...the LINE 6 site suggestions for solutions to this problem more or less involve gutting your computer and starting over. They should have FIXED this problem by now.Everything I have read reports that you can use your Workbench software with a PODxt, PODlive, etc with no problems, but the USB hub ONLY is a nightmare. Also, my CAT cable must be held by hand to my Variax 300 guitar to maintain connection. Had it tested by a friend who uses Variax guitars...his cable worked fine, mine did not..Mucisian's Friend cannot help, since there is SOFTWARE involved...I am currently attempting to get LINE 6 to replace the defective the meantime, until I borrow someone's PODxt, I cannot use Workbench.

Setup ok, acoustic is limited

By Mark

from Amarillo, TX

Comments about Line 6 Variax Workbench 1.5:

The software installed easy enough, but required additional updates via the internet. Not difficult, just more steps. Had the software up and running in less than 45 minutes. Guitar ran out of battery half way through, requiring a 'soft reset' and flash reload via Monkey. Workbench is easy to use and like other reviewers I wish it had additional acoustic bodies or electric bodies to add. I definitely replaced the Shamisen and Banjo settings with other acoustic options since I don't use them on my acoustic Line 6 and they work good. Please, please Line 6, add some new acoustic sounds!!!

Comments about Line 6 Variax Workbench 1.5:

I was glad to finally get my copy of Workbench to test it out on my Variax. It works exactly as described. It's quite easy to use. Within 10 or 15 minutes I had created some new tones and tunings and was syncing my custom sounds back to the Variax. I'm completely satisfied.

Variax Workbench Software For Use With Acoustic 700

By Jim Burgard

from Monclova, OH

Comments about Line 6 Variax Workbench 1.5:

I wasn't sure about getting this software when I first ordered the guitar, but am glad that I ended up doing so. It allowed me to go in very easily and replace some of the models (like the Shamisen) that I figured I'd probably never have a use for, with customizations of my own that suited a particular song or songs. It's incredibly easy to use, but a few improvements would make it great. Adding some guitar bodies outside of what come Standard on the Variax would increase its value, as would the ability to do some alternate tunings with the Mandola and 12 String models. All in all a great companion to your guitar though!

Comments about Line 6 Variax Workbench 1.5:

I really enjoy this program because it makes it so convient for so many reasons. For one I use alternate tunings all the time. And It's a pain switching between them with all my guitars, but with the click of a button it changes the tuning and it sounds pretty much perfect. No difference or "fake" synth sound. It sounds like you just tuned it yourself. Building the guitars is also a lot of fun! Especially changing what kind of pickups you want, what direction, placement. It is clearly amazing what it does. No variax is complete without this software. You unlock unlimited possibilities. To not get it... well.. it's like wasting half the potential that the Variax has. Just think, almost any guitar you want. Make the right choice. GET IT TODAY!!
