Overview

The Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 MkII 100W Guitar Amp Head is the result of a groundbreaking collaborative effort between living-legend amp designer Reinhold Bogner and renowned amp-modeling upstarts Line 6. The 100-watt guitar amp head offers the best of both worlds: brawny, boutique-style tube tone and the latest, most advanced Line 6 amp modeling with complete flexibility and deep editing.

Acclaimed amp tones
Spider Valve MkII HD100 amp head has the tools and tones you need to build your sound from the ground up. It features 16 of the most advanced Line 6 amp models, which were inspired by the most revered American, British and European heads and combos. Each one was custom-tuned for Spider Valve MkII amps.

Get in front of sparkling clean tones inspired by a Hiwatt Custom 100, syrupy smooth drive tones inspired by a mix of a '65 Marshall JTM-45, a '58 Fender Bassman and a '63 Fender Vibroverb, British pop/rock tones inspired by a Vox AC-30 Top Boost, high-gain onslaughts inspired by a Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier and a Diezel Herbert, Class A crunch inspired by a Divided by 13 9/15, classic Class A breakup inspired by an Orange AD-30, and more! Store tones from every gig with the Line 6 amp head's 128 user-programmable presets.

Need to shape your tone? Tweak the Bass, Mid and Treble knobs just like you would on the original vintage amps. When you choose an amp model, the EQ section behaves just like the EQ section of the modeled amplifier. Spider Valve MkII HD100 gives you a complete, organic and fully authentic representation of its 16 vintage and modern amplifiers.

An instant collection of essential FX
Start smart and dive deep with the unprecedented control of Line 6 Smart FX. 20 brilliant effects deliver unprecedented color, adjustability and routing options. You can tweak up to 6 parameters of any effect—including the intelligent Smart Harmony and Pitch Glide, and easy-to-use 14-second Quick Loop—and route it pre or post for an extraordinary collection of tone-shaping tools. Plus, you get every guitarist's required palette of colors including beautiful Delays, tangy Mods, lush Reverbs and more. Up to 4 effects can be used simultaneously.

Fully editable, deeply sophisticated
Line 6 Spider Valve MkII HD100 amp head is poised to become the workhorse amp for all kinds of pro players. Its seamless integration into MIDI rigs allows for quick changes to all front-panel controls, easy synching of your time-based effects (to themselves and to your drummer's click-track) as well as other time- and energy-saving features.

Plus, two output modes deliver easy and effective solutions for direct-recording and gigging. Performance Mode lets you send a signal, which provides tube and modeling interaction, via the XLR out to the front-of-house engineer. Studio Mode bypasses the tubes to send the platinum-album Line 6 modeling only.

Brawny tube tone
Many so-called tube amps employ low-voltage "marketing" tubes to add authenticity to their "tube amp" claim. Line 6 Spider Valve MkII HD100 boasts bona fide Bogner-designed 12AX7 preamp and 6L6 power amp sections that run at lethal voltages (about 300 volts and 450 volts, respectively) to produce exceptional depth, tonal coloration and richness.

Handsfree control and more
The optional Line 6 FBV foot controllers deliver out-of-the-box volume/wah, pitch control, preset control and more. FBV Shortboard MkII pairs perfectly with Spider Valve MkII HD100 amp head to offer complete, handsfree control of the on-board Spider Valve MkII effects including Quick Loop, Smart Harmony and more. The bright and backlit oversized LCD makes it easy to see preset names and the chromatic tuner.

This amp has tons of cool pre-sets, sounds great live and in the studio, and is way cheaper than I first thought it should be. The one I had burned through tubes though!!! My worst nightmare happened also when the sound completely fell out mid performance!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Took it to get fixed and it needed all kinds of new parts including NEW TUBES AGAIN (I replaced them weeks before). Remember this sucker aint made in the states or UK so it has some cheap components. That being said, the other guitar player in my band hasn't had too many issues with his. Oh... Oh.. Oh... and the floor board is great when it works, but again... CHEAP MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS!!! my baord has cost more than half it's value in repairs!!! I switched to the Hughes and Kettner Switchblade which has built in effects, an included floorboard, and tons of space for pre-sets, and I am WAY HAPPIER with that.

Worst sounding tube amp I have heard in my life

By JEFFERY WHITNER

from Cleveland, Ohio

Took this back after just a week or so and that is only because that was as soon as I could take it back. Horrible Tone, NO natural sounding preamp gain. FX are nice but who cares id the base sound sucks? (and it sucks hard and sideways with a mouth of crushed ice) Over marketed, over hyped and there are many used models already being sold for 1/2 the price. So, add does NOT hold value to the list. I really like their FX units and even the solid state practice amps and amp head BUT, Please stay away from this amp and the DT 25/50. Any TUBE amp FROM LINE 6 sounds like complete garbage to me. It was a great concept but they could NOT pull it off. Maybe, they should partner with Mesa or Black Star etc. to make this happen. Last but NOT least BEWARE of ANYTHING that claims to be a THOUSAND WHISTLES in ONE. Thank God Guitar center gives you 30 days to test things out. Until next time....

Tone Monster

By Pete Lutsky

from Connecticut

I have been using a rack for 20 years and it sounds great. The only bad thing is im getting older and lugging this rig around was getting to be a pain in my back. When I saw this amp from line 6, I thought It was time for a change. Im running the head through two 2X12 mesa cabs with vintage 30s.... I set the amp up and was blown away!..Have been gigging with it for the past year and im very happy with it. This amp is unbelievably loud! I would recommend buying the shortboard, its worth every penny.

Not the plug and play amp i come to expect form Line 6

By Jim Davenport

from Cleveland, Ohio

Had it for 4 mounths and just got it to sound good. had to take it into the shop two times for a power tube that kept blowing when i got it back the second time it sounded good for two weeks and then started to sound too distorted. so i replaced ALL of the tubes with Grove Tubes. Four Matching GT-6L6GE (rated 5) and Two GT-12AX7-R. That fixed the amp problem. My cab didnt sound so good with the head so i got the Line 6 412SV cab. Only then did it sound like something i would like to play through. Love the sound now but a long road to get there.

Excellent Gear

By Berenice Guevara

from El paso Tx.

This amp exemplifies what I've been waiting for from Line; the versatility of Line 6 functionality and effects with the authentic tone of a boutique style tube amp. For Line 6 patrons or skeptics alike, the Spider Valve Mk II eliminates any trace of the cold, digital tone you?ve heard in the past. The ability to play through a tube amp while maintaining access to world class effects and the option to save the tones you craft is a dream for guitar players. The Spider Valve Mk II is the perfect marriage of the convenience I need as a guitarist. If you're a Vetta owner, you'll appreciate the more straight-forward interface offered by the Spider Valve Mk II. Dialing in great tones with the Spider Valve Mk II is not nearly the production it was with Vetta. I dialed in a thick, creamy distortion tone on the Spider Valve Mk II in about 10 - 15 minutes. Not to say that I won't tweak it more, but you get something great to work with right away. The introduction of "SmartFX" on the Spider Valve Mk II improves upon a critically acclaimed Line 6 effects collection and makes it even easier to add and customize them into your tone. Another fantastic addition to the Spider Valve Mk II is the 14 second sound-on-sound looper. The looper is accessible right from the Line 6 FBV Mk II short board, which is very convenient; you get a great looper while minimizing stage clutter. Lastly, I have to give props to Line 6 for making this product available at a price I honestly don't understand. They could charge double what they're asking for this amp and it would still be reasonable. I also respect Line 6 for not attempting to create this amp by themselves. Teaming up with a legend in the tube amp community line Bogner was a great call; it produced a truly excellent, well rounded product for guitarists that combine the individual experience and mastery of the two parties. Worth every buck you're going to spend in this perfect amp. I think this head amp was my best investment in this year. and GuitarCenter the best place to purchase. just get it...

Modeling Flexibility & Tube Tone = <3

By Mike Miller

from New Castle, PA

Let me start this review off by saying this is an amazing piece of equipment, one of the best amps I've played through. (I've played triple rectifiers etc.) I originally had a Line 6 Pod X3 Pro. I loved the modeling, but was missing the warmth and tone of a tube head. I finally found my solution the HD100 MKII! It has all the flexibility of a modeler and all the tone of a tube amp. You can dial in any sound for any style! Bogner & Line 6 have come together to get the best of both modeling and tube internals. I know from here on out I will be buying these heads I refuse to use anything else. I'm that impressed great job.

very nice

By michael rammel

from modesto ca

I have been a true believer in line 6 since the original pod. I have also got the pod 2 the pocket pod the xt live, and now the hd100 mk2. this amp sounds so good. close your eyes and you will swear you are playing a fender twin. A kick to the foot pedal, and you have gain for days. I play a classical guitar with a fishman pre and with the l6 clean and reverb and a little delay, and it sounds as if you are playing live at a huge hall. I plug in my epi acoustic steel string, and now i can play country or rockabilly, or the sweetest sounding blues, a little grit and no feedback!!!! The punch is when I plug in my epi les paul with emgs tuned down to c. I use the blue insane, and delay and reverb. Oh my god captain crunchy, switch to the neck pup sweet velvety lead tones, back off on the volume and get that awesome yngwie sound. I will never be able to play anything else but Line 6. Better Than The Best

By Robert B.

from San Bernardino, CA

Mesa, Orange, Peavey, Marshall, and Krank, are just some of the most expensive amps and are said to be the best of the best, but wouldn't you just like to have them all in one amp head? If you said no, then you obviously have enough time and money to buy each one, but for those looking for an amp with these sounds without breaking a $1,000 budget, your search is over. The Line 6 HD100 MKII does evrything you could imagine, plus some things that probably haven't even thought of. It also has tons of effects that these expensive name brands lack. You would probably end up paying as much as the price of a Mesa to just get every effect pedal that the MKII simulates. This head is made for any genre of music, and you will never get bored of it. Almost everyday I discover something new with its easy to use EQ, from the silent noise gate and pitch shifter (which can downtune your guitar wihout the hassle of even touching the tuning knobs), to the intense delay and smart harmony effects. The tone is amazing and can go from the tightest, punchiest, and heaviest riff or breakdown to the most calming cleanest melody you could think of. This is the biggest asset I have, and I think will ever, invest in my guitar arsenal. So if your thinking about getting any other amp head besides the MKII, stop thinking and get this amazing tube head. Because you know you want it haha.

Pure Beast

By Ziggy

from Towson, MD

Just got this amp last week and I'm nothing short of impressed. For the price, there's nothing that compares with the versatility involved with this amp, all of the effects included add a lot of value. The tubes add excellent tone as well. I was skeptical at first because line six usually has chinky tone but the tubes basically eliminate that factor, they give it a more "vintage" sound. This amp is also incredibly LOUD. Be careful when you crank it, I found out the hard way. Great amp overall.

Everything I Could Ever Need!

By Alex

from Chicago, IL.

I've played lead guitar in my heavy metal band for three years, just started playing in my Universities jazz band and jam with a group of guys that are huge B.B. King fans, so I needed a very, very versatile amp. Line 6's Spider series amps are great, but I felt it was time to step up to a tube. I went to my local Guitar Center to look around, and I saw one of these, so naturally, I sat down to try it out. All I can say is wow, it has all of the features of the Spider series, and the power and tone of real tubes. I've played a lot of tube heads, but with Bogner behind this amp, there is no contest, especially with them being 6L6's. My rhythm guy bought one of the first versions used, but I love all of the new features that the second generation has to offer. The looper is awesome for writing songs and working on solos, and I have every effect that I could ever need. I use and would absolutely recommend the FVB MkII Shortboard to truly unlock all the benefits of this amazing amp. I run it through a Marshall 1960A Lead cabinet, and it is pure tonal heaven. If you are looking for the last amp you will ever need, no matter what genre of music you play, look no further and save your pennies, Line 6 has created a once in a life time amp!
