Not for everyone

Comments about Line 6 Spider V 240 240W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Just picked this amp up a few days ago and after getting the time to hear it at a louder volume and fully test out different sounds/effects I realized this amp was horrible in a general sense. I had seen reviews that talked about some different issues that didn't really effect what I was going to use the amp for and most seemed to say that overall it was a decent sounding amp however most of them did some post-recording editing to where you couldn't hear how the amp actually sounded on its own and all of the Line 6 company reviews used a lot of clean tones and didn't show much variety so when I tried to develop a sound for a Clutch, The Sword, Red Fang mixed kind of tone, it didn't work whatsoever. It's a great amp for testing out different sounds and effects so if you're a beginner and wanna grab a cheaper lower wattage version of the amp, it's not a terrible idea however I've been told there are far better amps both performance wise and practice wise that are the same price, if not, cheaper so I'd recommend looking into that. I'm currently in the process of finding either a better combo amp or looking into putting some more money aside for a cabinet/head to give me the sound/tone that I want and will be returning this amp asap. I had a Line 6 Spider IV 75w amp before and had a variety of tones set out between the channels from clean to punk to thrash to blackened death metal and seemed to get a decent sounding tone for all of them so I figured going with the Spider V and a higher wattage would be perfect but I was unfortunately wrong. Line 6 always gets a bad name and I never really understood why until this moment.

Comments about Line 6 Spider V 240 240W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Found this amp to be good for rhythm but so-so for lead. If you like the modern sounds, it will probably suit you well, but it seems to have a mid range quality throughout all the pre sets. If you are looking for the lead sound from the Marshal 60's sound along with the growl, especially on the high strings, you probably won't find it here. As to the distortion settings, I found it to be slightly too fuzzy but not muddy unless you want it to be but produces the distorted sound found in solid state amps rather than that of a tube amp.

Comments about Line 6 Spider V 240 240W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Just got this amp last week. Love it. Easy to use, sounds great, and a blast to play with. The spider app is simple to use just type in a song or a band click on it , and boom there you go instant tone. Sure if you are a tube amp prueist you want like it, but for the money you can't beat it.

Best Uses

Comments about Line 6 Spider V 240 240W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I really wanted this to be "the one", but sadly it isn't even close. The online videos show people who have already had time to customize and had line 6 to help them set up thier presets. The amp is virtually useless without a control pedal (not even a basic up down pedal is included) which must be purchased separately, unless you can play with one hand and press buttons and turn a knob with the other while playing. It had some great tones, and probably would have more if you want to plug a mobile device and leave it connected in order to have other than stock tones and be able to have a better visual representation for editing. The looper would be great, if you had the correct controller. The full range speakers are anice touch but lack the umph of a true guitar amp. Its like playing a nice modeling pedal through a small portable stereo PA. I was really hoping that having the ability to play acoustic/electrics through the same amp would allow me to sell other gear. I tried 5 different guitars, Luna 6 string, Luna 12 string, Luna classical nylon, ESP thin line steel 6, and an ESP thin line classical nylon string guitar. All of them sounded dull, and weak compared to playing through a simple acoustic guitar amp. I tried three different ESPguitars with EMGs and 4 Ibanez guitars, 1 with custom EMG and 1 Seymore Duncan active pickups, and two with INF series passive pickups and was impressed with the clean and distorted tones, but the lack of controlling the presets made it a big letdown after the initial surprise and the supposed full range of the amp left the sound somewhat empty. Even miking an amp and playing through a mixer sounds fuller. Now this is my own opinion and others may say I didn't spend enough time with it and that is why I was disappointed, but I have tried many Iine 6 items over the years and have either returned them or sold them for the same reasons. The only things I still use are the wireless guitar systems. Built in wireless was a nice option.
