Comments about Line 6 Sonic Port VX:
This is an excellent, versatile device for someone who wants to jump into iOS recording without having to spend a ton of money. I decided to start out with iOS, and go from there due to the intuitive nature of Garage Band. Having good quality mics is a huge plus and the range and response seem pretty good for the price. I'm looking forward to doing some experimental stuff with the stereo mics. I already own a condenser-mic, and was was considering one of the "Dock" solutions, but ultimately went with this because I liked that I could conveniently take it anywhere and set up easily. I use this the Sonic Port VX to record guitar and vocals in garage band and I'm very pleased with the quality. The app is great and after some playing around with various virtual effects and cabinets I was able to produce some clean and heavy tones that I was very pleased with. The out of the box tones are great to jump in and play around with, but the possibilities seem nearly endless once you start swapping pedals, heads, and cabinets around. I have a BOSS ME 25 that I'll probably rarely use now when recording. My only gripe is that there's no MIDI, but I knew that going in so it's no big deal.
Comments about Line 6 Sonic Port VX:
As compared to the other interfaces available, the Sonic Port VX beats them hands down. You don't have to mess with stands, cables, power adapters, batteries, or even microphones. Just plug this thing into your iPad and start recording! It's that simple. The mic is good for amateur stuff and demos. This thing is great for recording ideas on the fly without complicated equipment. If you use GarageBand you can only record two tracks, but if you download Auria, you can record two tracks simultaneously. You can even plug a mic into the guitar plugin with a TRS cable. The only drawbacks are that it will not charge your iPad with the secondary cord, unlike advertised, and the Line6 Pod effects don't sound that great, but they are useable in a pinch. Be sure to clear all the programs running in the background before you start recording. Do the same if you switch between recording programs. They will consume too much computing power and freeze your iPad and also not let you use the POD effects as a plugin.
